📸 Rotary Fellowship Month – Celebrating Friendship on the Road

June is officially Rotary Fellowships Month, a time to celebrate international friendship, shared interests, and the connections that bring Rotarians together beyond club service.

One of the most popular and long-standing fellowships is the Recreational Vehicle Fellowship of Rotarians (RVFR), chartered in 1972. In Australia and several other countries, it brings together members who share a love of travel, camping, and life on the road.

RVFR members are known for their adventurous spirit and enjoyment of travelling together in caravans and campervans. Across Australia, membership is organised into geographical zones, each running its own “musters” (gatherings and events), with members warmly welcomed across all zones and even from overseas visitors. Membership is open to Rotarians, partners, and friends alike.

Many members of Swan Rotary are part of this vibrant fellowship, regularly enjoying trips away together and strengthening friendships along the way. Learn more about the fellowship here: https://www.rvfr-aus.org.au

💛🚐🧡 Service above self… and shared journeys along the way!

On Monday, we were pleased to welcome Maddison Calzada and Danielle Hadley, who shared an update on the NEST Program (Neurodivergent Emergency Support & Transition) at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals. The program is proudly supported by St John of God Foundation, Swan Rotary and the City of Swan.

NEST supports neurodivergent individuals and people with intellectual disabilities during emergency hospital visits. The program is designed to help familiarise participants with hospital environments and medical procedures, reducing anxiety and improving outcomes through compassionate, personalised support.

Hospital emergency departments can often feel overwhelming, particularly for neurodivergent individuals who may experience challenges regulating in unfamiliar environments. Through personalised assessments, planning and preparation sessions, NEST provides ongoing support by offering:

- Familiarisation with the emergency department environment
- Individualised support
- Family collaboration
- Practical resources and strategies

Thanks to the ongoing support of Swan Rotary, the NEST program has already achieved significant outcomes such as: Autism WA training for hospital staff, development of an emergency department sensory toolbox, creation of personalised social stories, individually tailored support options for parents and carers to improve emergency department experiences.

For more information contact Maddie via [email protected] visit [email protected] or get in touch with Swan Rotary

Kicking Goals for Rotary and Futsal

It was a pleasure to host William Taylor, who has been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming International Futsal Tournament in Brazil in November 2026. 🇦🇺⚽🇧🇷

William’s football journey began at just 4 years old with Morley Windmills before progressing through Dianella White Eagles, Bayswater, and now Subiaco Football Club.

Alongside his outdoor football journey, William has dedicated the past four years to Futsal, representing at State level for three consecutive years and earning selection twice for Australian Nationals. William is a leader amongst his playing peers and enjoys being a referee too.

So, what is Futsal?

Futsal is a fast-paced indoor version of soccer/football played on a smaller court, focusing on skill, quick decision-making, teamwork, and ball control. The sport is rapidly growing in popularity amongst both males and females of all ages across Australia and internationally.

Despite its growth, Futsal remains a largely self-funded sport, with many talented young athletes and even national representatives required to fund much of their own playing careers and international opportunities.

William’s presentation highlighted not only his dedication to the sport, but also the values of leadership, resilience, teamwork, and community spirit that align strongly with Rotary’s ideals of “Service Above Self”.

We wish William every success as he prepares to represent Australia on the world stage. We look forward to helping him kick some goals in Brazil and hearing of his triumphs upon return.

Well down William! Continuing Rotary’s commitment to inspiring and supporting young people through sport and community opportunity – Swan Rotary and your community are behind you! 👏

Did you know that around 500,000 Australian children aged 0–12 experience a mental disorder?

Mental health challenges don’t just affect the child — they impact families, friendships, learning, confidence and future wellbeing. Research also shows that around 50% of mental health disorders begin before the age of 14, making early support and research more important than ever.

That’s why the Lift the Lid Walk matters. By coming along, you’re helping raise awareness and funds for vital mental health research through Australian Rotary Health, with a strong focus on children’s mental health and wellbeing.

Every step helps create brighter futures for children and families across Australia.

Join us for the Lift the Lid Walk and walk with purpose. 💚

The detection of poliovirus in Perth wastewater is a reminder that until polio is eradicated everywhere, it remains a threat anywhere and highlights why the global fight against polio is not over.

Rotary has been leading the worldwide campaign through its “End Polio Now” initiative. When the campaign began, polio paralysed more than 350,000 children each year across 125 countries.

Since 1985, cases have fallen by more than 99.9 per cent thanks to vaccination, surveillance, and international cooperation. Rotary’s partnership has been central to this progress. The Gates Foundation matches Rotary’s polio fundraising contributions 2-to-1, helping generate hundreds of millions of dollars for vaccination programs, disease surveillance, and rapid outbreak response.

The detection in Perth wastewater demonstrates exactly why Rotary’s work still matters. The combination of vaccination and surveillance is one of the key strategies Rotary and its partners have supported for more than 40 years.

The detection in Perth reinforces Rotary’s long-standing message: the world is only one flight away from polio unless eradication is completed everywhere.

This weekend we reflect and remember,

On ANZAC Day, we honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of all those who have served and continue to serve our country. We remember not only the fallen, but also the families, communities, and generations shaped by their service.

At Rotary, service above self is at the heart of what we do. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by generations before us to establish our Nation and this way of life for the betterment of our community and all people.

Lest we forget.
