Girl Guides Northern Territory Region

Girl Guides Northern Territory Region A community based, not-for-profit organisation that empowers girls and young women to grow into confident, self-respecting, responsible community members.

Guiding is about self-confidence, leadership and teamwork. We empower girls and young women to speak out and take action on the issues they care about locally, nationally and globally. We provide a unique girls only space and are relevant to today's girls. We promote diversity and equality and are committed to giving girls and young women a voice. As part of a global movement, our committed volunteers make Guiding happen.

We've spent a whole week celebrating volunteers, and honestly? We could keep going. 💜

But before National Volunteer Week 2026 closes, we want to say something directly to every person who has ever given their time to Girl Guides NT:

Thank you.

Thank you for the early mornings and the late pack-ups. For the badge assessments and the permission slips and the "has anyone seen the first aid kit" moments. For the drive to the middle of nowhere because you promised a kid you'd be there.

Thank you for being the person a young girl looked up to when she needed someone to look up to.

You may never fully know what your presence meant to her. But she knows. And she'll carry it.

💜💜

To anyone reading this who's been thinking about volunteering — this is your sign.

You don't need to be extraordinary. You just need to show up. The extraordinary part comes later.

Today we want to hear from YOU. 💜

National Volunteer Week is the perfect moment to say thank you to someone who makes a difference — and we know our community has SO many people who deserve it.

Tell us in the comments:
👇 Who is the unsung hero of your local community?
👇 What's one thing a volunteer has done that you'll never forget?
👇 Or simply tag a volunteer who deserves 3 cheers today!

Every story matters. Every thank you counts.

And if YOU'RE ready to become one of those people someone else is cheering for — we'd love to have you on our team.

There's volunteering — and then there's volunteering in the Northern Territory. 🌅

Our Guides go on camps in the bush. They learn about Country. They build confidence in one of the most extraordinary landscapes on Earth. They grow up knowing they can handle anything.

And our adult volunteers? They get to be part of that.

From Top End adventures to Central Australian skies you won't find anywhere else in the world — being a volunteer with Girl Guides NT means being part of something genuinely unique.

This National Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the people who make those experiences possible — in every community, in every season, across this incredible Territory.

Drop a 🌿 in the comments if you've ever been part of a Guides adventure in the NT — or tag someone who deserves 3 cheers this week!

Step into 2026 with purpose and be part of something bigger.

Meet Shelagh👋

She has been volunteering with Girl Guides NT as District Manager for 43 years, and she has led Girl Guides Tennant Creek to be the winner of the Northern Territory Disability Services Awards and the Inclusive Communities Award🥳🥳

When we asked Shelagh why her team does it, they said:

'Watching these young women grow in confidence is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. It sounds cheesy, but it changes you too."

Every unit has a volunteer like Shelagh. Today we're giving them 3 cheers — and putting them on the map. 🗺️

New to Darwin? You're not alone — and we want to help you find your people. 💜

The NT has one of the most transient populations in Australia. People arrive for work, for defence postings, for adventure — and one of the first questions everyone asks is: how do I actually connect here?

Girl Guides NT has been that answer for so many of our adult volunteers.

Whether you're here for 12 months or the long haul, there's a place for you in Guiding. No Guiding experience needed. Just enthusiasm and a willingness to make a difference.
