If an adult or child sustains a burn injury remember to remove, cool, cover and seek. Remove all clothing from the area, unless stuck to the skin and place the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes – then seek medical help.
One lesson to learn about burns – 20 minutes to cool is the rule

Drinking fluids while participating in any sport or recreational activity is really important!

How to stay hydrated during sport?
• Drink plenty of fluids before, during and after sport
• Drink water before sugary sport drinks
• Cool fluids absorb quicker into the body
• Dehydration increases your risk of heat-related injuries
• Keep cool and stay in the shade where possible

As our little adventurers climb, swing, slide, and explore, it’s important to make sure the ground beneath them is ready to cushion any unexpected tumbles.

Falls are one of the most common causes of injuries on play equipment, but the good news is that the right surfacing can make a huge difference in keeping kids safe.

Here are a few friendly reminders to help create a safer backyard play space:
🛝 Use impact-absorbing surfacing under and around elevated or moving equipment (think cubby houses, swings, and slides).
🛝 Even for stationary equipment over 600 mm, cushioning surfacing is recommended.
🛝 For swings, make sure the surfacing stretches out as far as a child might leap or fall from the seat.
🛝 Great surfacing options include shredded bark mulch, wood chips, or non-compacting sand, installed at a minimum depth of 30 cm.
🛝 Check and top up your surfacing regularly.
🛝 Using temporary play equipment? Safety mats that meet safety standards can help.
🛝 While grass can look lovely, it’s not always the best option. It compacts quickly and wears down in high traffic zones like under swings and at the bottom of slides.
Creating a safe space doesn’t just prevent injuries; it allows kids to explore with confidence, curiosity, and joy.

Let’s keep those backyard adventures fun and safe! 🧡🌳🛝

Playground injuries often occur when a child falls from play equipment onto hard surfaces. 🛝🏥

When playing with your little ones at the playground, keep a close eye on them and ensure there is a safe ground surface such as sand, wood chips, or a rubber-like material.

Kids love to test their superhero moves on the playground… but they don’t always go to plan 🦸‍♂️

If a fall happens and you suspect a fracture:

👉 Give them some pain relief (e.g. paracetamol or ibuprofen)
👉 Reduce movement of the injured area if possible, by applying a splint or sling
👉 Apply an ice pack
👉 Elevate the limb

Then seek medical help at your GP or local emergency department 🏥

When we think of water safety, we often think of the beach or the pool. But for a curious toddler, danger can hide in plain sight around the home.

Common household items can become drowning hazards in an instant:

✅ Buckets used for cleaning
✅ Eskies with melted ice after a BBQ
✅ Pet water bowls
✅ Garden ponds and fish ponds

Remember to empty buckets and eskies immediately after use and turn them upside down so they don't collect water.
