What a wonderful afternoon celebrating the people and organisations making an impact across Newcastle and the Hunter at our 2026 Newcastle Business Club Awards Luncheon.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a special celebration of our business community.

🏆 Today’s the day! Our 2026 Newcastle Business Club Awards Luncheon is here!

We’re looking forward to welcoming our members, guests and finalists as we come together to celebrate the outstanding people and organisations making a difference across Newcastle and the Hunter.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Scanes, a long-standing and much-valued member of the Newcastle Business Club community.

Ron joined the Club in 1997, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his career in banking and business organisations. He joined the Committee in 1999 and went on to make an extraordinary contribution to the Club over many years.

In 2002, Ron was elected President of Newcastle Business Club. He subsequently then served for two years as Treasurer and, from 2008, took on the role of Secretary, a position he held for many years. In recognition of his significant contribution to the Club, Ron was also made a Life Member during the 75th anniversary celebrations.

But Ron’s contribution went well beyond the positions he held. For many years, Ron’s garage doubled as the unofficial storage facility for the Club, housing all manner of Club materials and equipment. He truly was the keeper of the history of the Club.

Long-time members may also remember the days before online bookings and RSVPs, when people simply turned up to events. Ron had the unenviable task of predicting how many people might arrive, somehow helping make sure everything came together on the day.

Ron gave an extraordinary amount of time and energy to the Club over many years and was part of its history through a significant period.

We extend our condolences to Ron’s family, friends and all those in the Newcastle business community who knew him.

Newcastle Business Club is proud to announce the finalists for the 2026 Industry Impact Award.

This award recognises contribution to the common good of our region through actively supporting the development of future business leaders.
