$2 ENTRY FEE FOR CONCESSION HOLDERS 🥳

Council has voted to make the entry fee for all concession holders at Lambton Pool only $2!

This is a big win for those in our community that need it most and we thank ALL the Councillors that have pushed to reduce the cost of entry at inland pools.

We hope this trend continues and we soon see entry fees drop for everyone else to bring Lambton it in line with the other Council owned pools in Newcastle.

Its time to speak up and ask for the money .. to be spend on the Lambton Pool.

Newcastle Council's draft budget is on exhibition at the moment. There is evidently money in the budget for an indoor pool, but no mention of refurbishment or renewal of the existing pools or for upgrading the changerooms.
Please make a submission via Council's Have Your Say page and ask for money to be allocated to the things you care most about.

Want to see what we're planning next financial year? Find out and have your say before 28 May 2026.

We need to start asking for money

A few weeks ago, Sonia Hornery MP and City of Newcastle hosted an information session at Lambton Pool to share a proposal from Royal Life Saving Society – Australia. The proposal involves a new modular, prefabricated pool construction system that could be used to retrofit ageing pools or build new ones.

Newcastle is one place where this could work — but we’re not the only ones. Many councils across NSW have old pools in need of repairs. That means if we want Lambton Pool to receive funding to have the new method used to retrofit or upgrade Lambton Pool, or possibly also build a 25m indoor pool, we need to start asking for it loudly and often.

We all know the reality: fixing and upgrading the pool will cost far more than Council can manage alone. State Government funding is essential.

Before the State Government commits serious money to Lambton Pool, they need to see clear evidence that this is what the community wants. That’s where we come in.

👉 Please take a few minutes to write to Sonia Hornery MP ([email protected]) and the NSW Minister for Sport The Hon. Stephen Kamper MP ([email protected] or use the online form to contact him via the NSW Parliament website ) and ask them to push the State Government to invest in fixing and upgrading Lambton Pool.

Every email, letter and message helps show that Newcastle — and Lambton Pool in particular — is exactly where investment in public pools should begin.

If you love this pool and want to see it thrive into the future, now is the time to speak up. đź’™

Encourage anyone free on Friday 17 April to get along to the pool to hopefully find out what is being planned and what the process will be for consultation. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

LAMBTON POOL COMMUNITY FEEDBACK SESSION

City of Newcastle have been speaking to me about a year round indoor pool project at Lambton Pool.

Council are looking to partner with Royal Life Saving - NSW ACT Tasmania to be a pilot project using a modular design "pattern book" style pool.

The benefits of partnering with RLS NSW will be a lower cost for this pool and a chance for RLS NSW to work with other councils to update their pools at a significantly lower cost.

I'm very keen to hear from the community about their views on this project and so representatives from City of Newcastle and I will be hoping to hear from the community about this project.

There will be a community feedback session at Lambton Pool on:
Friday 17 April
From 1:30pm - 2:30pm

I'd love to hear from you!

If you are unable to make it to this session, you are always free to call my office or to call Council and leave your feedback.

UPDATED 9 APRIL 2026 - to acknowledge work on the diving platforms currently underway.

UPDATE : APRIL 2026
There has been little progress on the 10 point plan for securing the pools future, as shown in the image attached.

In other news:
* Despite the 2024 promise of more community consultation on the proposal for an indoor 25m pool (which was marketed as consultation on year round opening), there has been no additional information on the proposal shared with the community.

* Despite knowing about the problems for years, Council had allowed the diving facilities to decline to the point that they had been deemed unusable. Work has now begun on repairing and painting the diving platforms, however many of the diving boards are still not able to be used.

* Despite the majority of submission on the trail of $2 pool entry coming from Lambton Pool users, Lambton Pool was left out of this summers' trail of the reduced entry fee.

* All information about the Inland Pools Community Network seems to have vanished off Council's website and there is no evidence that this community reference group has met in years. The Lambton Pool representative on this group has been completely silent.

DIVING PLATFORMS SHUT
Decades of neglect and inaction have taken their toll on the diving towers.
A recent safety assessment suggests that the platforms may not be safe so Council is closing some, at least for now.
Let’s hope this is a wake up call to Council to start investing in the pool infrastructure. Councillors and staff have promised this investment for years and years and still nothing happens.
Keep the existing infrastructure in good shape before thinking of building more should be the top priority.
Check out the media statement for some more detail.

We need to keep letting everyone know how important our pool is or it will not survive.

We need to keep letting everyone know how important our pool is or it will not survive.

Billions of dollars need to be spent on repairing and replacing around 500 public pools over the next decade, so what does the future hold for the much-loved sporting and social hubs?

30/08/2025

Lambton Pool has re-opened today!

We’ve recently completed some upgrades at the pool, like installing a new platform lift and ramp so that more people can access and enjoy the pool. We’ve also given the pool a paint job and installed three new heat pumps.

Come and enjoy a dip, between 5.30am-6.00pm daily 🏊
