We understand that families need extra support at times and we are here to help you by offering a range of free services.

Please note we are unable to provide support on Facebook. Please call our office during our business hours on (02) 49263577. If in crisis call Lifeline on 13 11 14 for crisis support or dial 000 if life is in danger. Visit www.lifeline.org.au for more information. We are open 9:30am to 1:30pm Tuesday to Thursday (by appointment only). We are available for phone calls 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. We also reserve the right to remove any comment or content that:

- does not relate to the topic or post
- is abusive, harassing, stalking, threatening or attacking of others

Some FSN staff were able to spend the last few days hearing from many amazing, skilled and strong colleagues across the sector in Sydney at the DVNSW conference. There were stories of resilience and resistance which were inspiring and thought provoking; as well as discussions regarding best practice frameworks, areas that are working and areas we need to focus on as a sector. We can and must do better as a nation to eliminate and prevent DFV.

Mild traumatic brain injuries often go undetected among people who have experienced domestic and family violence (DFV). Estimates suggest that 28–100% of DFV survivors may have experienced a brain injury.

Many people don’t receive medical care because their injuries may not seem serious enough to require emergency treatment, or because the circumstances and trauma surrounding DFV can make seeking care difficult.

If you have been:

Hit around the head or neck
Strangled (choked)
Pushed or thrown and hit your head
Shaken
…it’s important to speak with a doctor and get checked.

You don’t have to navigate this conversation alone. Your DFV caseworker can support you in talking with your doctor and accessing the care you need.
