National Sorry Day is a time to reflect on the ongoing impacts of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, communities and cultures, and to acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and their families.

At Life Without Barriers, we acknowledge the injustices experienced by the Stolen Generations and the intergenerational trauma these policies continue to cause. We remain committed to listening, learning and walking alongside First Nations peoples in support of truth-telling, healing and Reconciliation.

"I’ve seen how much better things are when people take the time to listen, not just to me as her mum, but to Janette and what she wants as well." Frances, Janette's mother.

For more than 20 years, Geraldine has supported Janette, who chooses our Social and Community Participation Services, building a strong and positive relationship along the way.

By listening to Janette, as well as insights from her mother Frances, Geraldine provides tailored support that has made a meaningful difference to Janette’s independence and participation in the community.

"When communities recognise IDAHOBIT, it speaks of visibility and acceptance to me." Life Without Barriers PRIDE Network Member.

Yesterday was , a day to celebrate progress towards LGBTQIA+ equality and reflect on the work still ahead to prevent discrimination towards LGBTQIA+ people.

This year’s theme, 'At the heart of democracy,' reminds us that inclusion is shaped by everyday actions and centres around whether people feel safe to be themselves, heard, and supported to live life their way.

The progress we’ve seen over time has been driven by ordinary people continuing to show up, speak up, and make space for others. Our daily choices help shape the communities we contribute to.

How will you show up for LGBTQIA+ inclusion this IDAHOBIT?

"Agfest was a blast! We had great conversations with people about the urgent need for foster carers in Tasmania. The most fun was seeing our younger visitors (and some older ones) enjoying making the little greenhouses to grow flowers. We hope to have planted a seed in the thoughts of many people this year." Anna Wild, Operations Manager.

👩‍🌾Our team and Carer Ambassadors spent a fantastic few days at Agfest, chatting with locals and sharing information about the services we offer across Tasmania.

A big thank you to our partner, Ashgrove Cheese, for continuing to support us in raising awareness that 'Tassie Kids Need Foster Carers'.

If you didn’t catch us at Agfest but would like to learn more about foster care in , join one of our upcoming information sessions on Thursday, 21 May: https://bit.ly/4uCj09A or visit our website: https://bit.ly/3Py2OY1

What does a well-designed home really look like when it’s built around the needs of the person living there?

For people choosing Supported Independent Living, the answer often comes down to something less visible but far more important than the building itself: the relationships behind it.

Because when collaboration works well, it can mean:
🏠 homes designed with real life in mind
🤝 support models that fit the way you want to live
✅ more space for independence, choice and consistency.

When selecting a home and supports for yourself or a loved one with disability, what matters most to you?
