Beware: Travel-related phishing scam

There has been a security breach of a booking platform used by holiday park operators such as BIG4. Booking . com has also recently been targeted.

Be careful of emails or messages requesting that you confirm your stay or credit card details. Do not click on links in these messages or take any actions that they specify. These messages are NOT from the accommodation providers, even though they contain details of a trip you have booked, including your name and the correct dates of your stay.

If you are concerned, go directly to the website of the provider or contact them directly.

Australian travellers are being warned their personal information may have been exposed following a cybersecurity breach involving an accommodation software company.

Today is the International Day of Rural Women.

Observed annually on October 15, it recognises the critical role women in rural areas play in agriculture, food security, natural resource management, and community development. The day calls for greater investment, equality, and policy support for rural women worldwide.

Today we celebrate the International Day of Rural Women.

Although rural women make up nearly half of the entire workforce, they are not accorded equal rights and participation as their male counterparts. They also face discrimination in terms of equal pay, credit, participation in decision-making, access to resources, and livestock ownership.

Access to quality health services, essential medicines, and vaccines is also very low. Restrictive social norms and gender stereotypes also limit the ability of rural women to access health services.

In rural areas, women are often isolated and cannot easily access critical technologies that can improve their work and personal lives.

Pacific climate voices were clear and strong this week.

“In the face of criticism over the efficacy of the UN’s COP process, this kind of humanity is often missing from global climate talks. Reaching beyond participation to relationships may set us up for the significant climate progress the Pacific – and every nation on earth – desperately needs.”

I witnessed a genuine desire for the world to engage with the people affected by climate change.
