🌿On this World Environment Day, we’re reflecting on how sustainability is embedded in our exhibitions at Bunjil Place Gallery.

In presenting 'The Offbeat Sari', we worked closely with the Design Museum, London, and exhibition designer, Peter King, to reduce environmental impact while adapting the show for a local context.

Low carbon, upcycled and reusable materials have guided the design approach. Many mannequins used in the exhibition were previously in circulation, refurbished and returned to display rather than sent to landfill. Existing display furniture has also been adapted wherever possible.

The material palette includes SaveBOARD, made from upcycled packaging, and UPtex, produced locally by UPPAREL using recovered textiles. These circular materials play both a functional and visual role within the exhibition.

This approach continues beyond Bunjil Place. Elements of the exhibition will be reused in its next presentation at Liverpool Powerhouse in Sydney later this year.

Presented exclusively in Victoria at Bunjil Place, 'The Offbeat Sari' is a touring exhibition by the Design Museum, London. Conceived and curated by Priya Khanchandani. Thanks also to our Program Partner, Orana by Balcon.
