A flora survey workshop was held on 29th May by Paul Doniatu from Qld Threatened Plants Network in conjunction with NPQ-SGAP Mackay, where attendees practised surveying for threatened plants at Rowallan Park.

We are attending the Botanic Gardens Open Day this Saturday, May 23, 8am til noon on the Tropical Sun Lawn.

We will be selling a range of native plants ready to head home with you! Hope to see you there.

Mackay Conservation Group will hold an info session on Thursday night on the threat to Mackay's mangroves, posed by a new proposed road which may follow the Mackay Harbour railway.

Mackay's mangroves are important for fishing, water quality and our lifestyle - but they're also under threat from clearing and development 🎣

Come to this important event to learn more, and what you can do to help protect our mangroves now and for the future!

Great weather and time to get ahead in the garden. 😁

Some of our members have certainly been busy doing so - here are some lovely photos of flowers, fruits and interesting leaf growth from their native Aussie plants, shown at our April meeting last week.

🍃🌱 This Thursday, April 2nd at 7:30pm, the April Branch Meeting will take place in the meeting room at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens situated behind the visitor centre.

All members and guests are invited to attend.

Following a brief discussion of business, there will be a presentation on Atherton Arboretum by Mandy Shaw. Then we will have a show-and-tell or show-and-ask session will be held, where members are invited to share native plants, fruits, and flowers from their gardens.

The meeting will conclude with a plant raffle and refreshments.

The ‘Connecting Gardens Through Art’ mural in the Botanic Gardens was officially recognised today. This mural features locally occurring native plants which are being conserved in the surrounding Regional Forests and other areas. Make sure you wander through and take a look and be surprised at the diversity of flora and fauna depicted.

Meeting is tonight (Thursday) at 7:30pm, at the Mackay Regional Botanic Garden meeting room (behind the visitor centre). Come join us! Members & Guests are all welcome.

We'll have some brief general business, followed by a presentation on the mural artwork in the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens by Pamela Finger. Then we'll have a show-and-tell or show-and-ask of native plants, fruits and flowers brought in by members (bring in something from your garden!). This will be followed by a plant raffle, before wrapping up with a cup-of-tea or light snack.

Native plants are for sale again at the Botanic Gardens Visitor Information. A range of climbers, ground covers, shrub and tree species available. Prices range in price, $3-$12 each.
