Reminder for AGM at the hatchery this week

AGM season is here and we will hold our AGM and monthly meeting next Thursday 20th August at 6:30pm at the Rob Symons Hatchery behind the new Club Northern Beaches bowls club.

All executive positions for President, Secretary and Treasurer will be vacant like all AGM’s and Gavin as current Treasurer of many, many years is looking for an incoming person to take over as he’s looking for time away from home.

Tagged Barra recapture !

Great to see the legal size Barra released to continue to grow and travel even further. This Barra was tagged and released at Platypus Beach and has successfully travelled over the weirs to the mouth of the Pioneer River to grow to 82cm.
If you catch any tagged fish, take a photo of the fish and/or the tag and phone Suntag or report on their website!

Tagged Sooty update;

It’s been a few years and about 600-700 tags but we are getting some tagged Sooty data back from Eungella which is great.
Don’t forget to ring Suntag 1800 077 001 or report online so we can track their growth rate in the dam.
We’ve seen 2 fish tagged from the 2026 INDT Pty Ltd WSC grow 11mm & 21mm in just a month and another Sooty from 2025 WSC grow 61mm !
Can’t wait to see a 50cm plus Sooty recaptured!

2026 INDT Pty Ltd WSC biggest Sooty on Fly was Alex Petrov…again! That’s 2 years in a row for Alex and this year he won a guided fishing charter with Headwaters Art and Angling Co in the Pioneer Valley floating down the rivers chasing some wild Sooties.
If you want to explore the Mackay Region for the variety of fishing that’s on offer, drop into the Headwaters shop on Archibald Street for a chat.

2026 INDT Pty Ltd WSC scavenger hunt is for those angler who find a key tag out on the dam in the timber, some go looking for those special key tags and some stumble across them.
Either way these WSC competitors picked up some lures from SHIMANO Australia Fishing Reidy's Lures Australia Wilson Fishing

INDT Pty Ltd WSC Most Sooties for top 3 boats - as these boats fish with 2 anglers in this individual tournament but these anglers still fish well together while still competing against each other and bringing in the most fish in the tournament which allows MAFSA to tag extra fish - another Daiwa Australia chiller bag for their efforts and almost 40 Sooties between 3 boats.

2026 INDT Pty Ltd WSC mystery length prizes - you only have to catch 1 Sooty to be in the mystery length draw.

Daiwa Australia chiller bags for the boat or the BBQ at home and JUNIORS added an Exceler spin reel and the SENIORS added a Kix spin reel to the bag !!
