As Mackay Private Hospital prepares to close its doors later this month, we would like to take a moment to thank the team for their support, generosity, kindness and community spirit that Mackay Private Hospital staff have shown us over the years.

We are incredibly grateful for the recent donations we received.

For decades, Mackay Private Hospital has been an integral part of the Mackay community, caring for countless local residents and making a lasting contribution to health and wellbeing in our region.

To the dedicated staff and leadership team, we thank you for everything you have done for our community. As many of you move on to new opportunities and roles, we wish you all the very best for the future and every success in the next chapter of your careers.

What a powerful and inspiring day here in Mackay. 💜

It was an honour to join more than 1,500 community members at the Respect in Every Step - March to End Domestic Violence, standing together to raise awareness and say no to domestic and family violence.

Seeing so many people united for such an important cause was incredibly moving.

This annual event, led by Rotary Club of Mackay through their Say No to Domestic and Family Violence campaign, continues to make a real difference across our region and grows stronger every year.

One of the most encouraging things was seeing how engaged and passionate the school groups were. That gives us real optimism for the future.

Congratulations and thank you to Mackay Rotary volunteers, and everyone who took part. By standing together, speaking up, and continuing these important conversations, we can help build a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.

This morning, counsellors from our Child and Adolescent team attended the Mount Pleasant Centre Respect Student Leaders Breakfast at Ocean International.

Presented by the Rotary Club of Mackay, the event brought together over 200 student leaders from across the community to connect, learn, and reflect on the importance of respect, leadership, and positive change.

Alongside valuable insights from community leaders, keynote speaker Jade McDonald shared a powerful and deeply personal account of her lived experience with domestic and family violence, leaving a lasting impact on everyone in the room.

Events like this play an important role in shaping the attitudes, values, and leadership of young people today. By creating opportunities for open conversations around respect and domestic and family violence, we help empower the next generation to grow into adults and leaders who can drive positive change and contribute to safer, healthier communities for the future. 💜

What does respect mean to you?

As part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention month, Mackay Regional Council are encouraging the community to start conversations about what respect means to them.

Our CEO, Belinda Berg, has joined the conversation.

Be part of the change - record a video of yourself talking about respect and use in your socials post.

It's a great opportunity to start a conversation and take a stand against domestic and family violence.

🎙️ We’ve had a busy start to Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month, with our CEO Belinda Berg speaking with media to talk about the impact of DFV in the region.

Last week, Belinda joined Rob Kidd on ABC Tropical North to talk about RESPECT and the need for continued community awareness and action.

Prevention starts with having conversations about what behaviours we accept as a community and what we won't tolerate.

They also spoke about the men's behaviour change program that we've developed, which allows those men who want to make a change the opportunity to do so in a way that fits in with their lifestyle.

A big thank you to ABC and Rob for helping us raise awareness and keep these important conversations going throughout May. 💜
