πŸ›‘οΈ Knowledge is Power: Scam Awareness for Our Spanish Group πŸ›‘οΈ

Scams are becoming more sophisticated every day and older people are often the most targeted. Whether it is a tricky phone call, a confusing text message or a fake email, these scams are designed to deceive.

To help protect our community, our vibrant Spanish social group recently hosted an important Scam Awareness session at the Multicultural Day Centre.

Presented in their own language, the session provided practical tips and tools to help members confidently identify red flags, protect their personal information and know exactly what to do if something feels unsafe. It was an incredibly empowering day, proving that you are never too old to learn how to outsmart a scammer!

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and kept our community safe, sharp and connected.

🌏 Refugee Week 2026 – A Million Stories πŸ’™

On Monday June 15, ADS proudly partnered with Sutherland Shire Council to celebrate Refugee Week at Kirrawee Library.

The event brought together community members to reflect on this year’s theme, 'A Million Stories', recognising the diverse experiences, resilience and contributions of refugees in Australia.

Our Ukrainian Choir performed during the event, sharing music that touched hearts and celebrated the strength, culture and spirit of our community.

One audience member described it as 'an incredibly moving experience' and expressed gratitude for being part of it.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event a meaningful celebration.

πŸ©ΊπŸ’™ Diabetes Prevention for the Bangla Community πŸ’™πŸ©Ί

Last Wednesday, ADS welcomed 18 members of the Bangladeshi community to a Diabetes Prevention Bangla Session at The Kogarah Storehouse.

Facilitated by Murad Hossain and co-facilitated by Qanita Ahmed, participants learned about diabetes risk factors, myths and misconceptions, signs and symptoms of Type 2 diabetes and the importance of prevention. The session also explored healthy lifestyle choices, support services and diabetes care, followed by an interactive Q&A. Did you know that up to 58% of Type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented through healthy lifestyle changes?

Together, we can build healthier communities through knowledge, prevention and support.

🍁 A Beautiful Autumn Day by the Water 🌊

Our Multicultural Day Centre’s Maltese group made the most of the gorgeous autumn weather with a wonderful walk by the water.

The sun was shining, the air was crisp and the views were absolutely stunning. It was the perfect opportunity for everyone to stretch their legs, get some fresh air and enjoy a lovely stroll together. Of course, no walk is complete without stopping for a great chat, laughing with each other and sharing stories along the way.

We love seeing our community out and about, staying active and enjoying nature together.

Empowering Our Community With Great Savings!

Today, our Greek group at the Multicultural Day Centre enjoyed a fantastic Savings Finder Information Session with Harry from Centrelink.

Harry has been visiting several of our groups lately and his impact has been incredible. Before today’s session, he also supported a client he met at ADS a few weeks ago through a one-on-one appointment. By providing forms in their native language and guiding them through money-saving strategies, he is helping to improve our clients’ quality of life.

A huge thank you to Harry for his invaluable support! πŸ™βœ¨
