Altona Miniature Railway is a hobby club that provides miniature train rides every third Sunday of the month to the young and the young at heart. Rides are provided by our members scaled diesel and steam engines (5" and 7 1/4" gauge) over our 1.2 km length track

🚂 TEMPORARY CLOSURE 🚂

Altona Miniature Railway will be temporarily closed due to unforeseen circumstances. Our scheduled open day on Sunday the 15th of November will not proceed. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Customers with bookings during the closure period will be contacted shortly.

🔧🚂 Not all the work at the railway happens at our monthly open days, or even during the week. 🚂 🔧

This weekend our Vice President Amy and Life Member Adrian are in the workshop, pressing on with the overhaul of a locomotive. Measuring, machining new axles and drilling the frames, getting everything ready for reassembly.

And yes, it’s great to see our VP on the tools and not just on the station!

A huge amount of what keeps our railway running happens quietly behind the scenes, on weekends and in members’ own time. People fitting in a few hours around work, family and everything else, all contributing to keeping the railway rolling.

And you don’t have to be an engineer to be part of it.

Whether you can spare a few hours a month, want to learn machining or track work, help maintain our locomotives, or learn to drive a , we can find you a task at the railway.

Some of our volunteer’s had an opportunity to trial some of their 3D printed trains! While they are smaller 5” gauge models and not made for passenger hauling, it’s one aspect of our growing hobby using new technology to engage being creative to build scaled replica’s of the full side counterpart.

🚂 Things are looking a little different at the railway!

If you recognise this spot, you might notice something fairly important is missing… the track!

We’ve removed this section of track to make way for one of the railway's biggest changes: installing two new tunnels made from two 40-foot corrugated pipes, starting next week, allowing the track to be completed over the hill.

We’re still running this Sunday!

Our Monthly Open Day is still on, but the trains will take a different route while work continues in this area.

Come down, have a ride, check out the works and see what’s changing around the railway. 🚂
