Contrary to prevailing media reports, we are NOT turning off our EFT machine, we are NOT going cash only.

A simple encouragement to use that other form of legal tender that doesn’t attract bank fees or crash when the power is out, has been so laughably misconstrued and misrepresented.

Our “cash preferred” day once a month has turned into a media circus. Our original post dated 7 Oct 26, bringing up the idea, stated that while card payments were still available and accepted, to consider bringing cash to keep the savings in your pocket instead of added fees going to a billionaire bank executive.

Just three weeks after card surcharging ended, Australia has set a new all-time record for the total value of Australian cash banknotes on issue.

The Reserve Bank of Australia reported today that $160 million of new notes were issued last week (to Wednesday 21st October) to take the total value of Australian notes in circulation to $109.389 billion ($109,389,000,000).

Since the 30 September 2026, the RBA's net issuance of banknotes has totalled $521 million.

The previous record for cash in Australia was $109.253 billion ($109,253,000,000) set during Christmas week 2025.

Making cash COOL again!

Small business is sick of being lumbered with bank fees and some are "bringing sexy cash back!"

Tapping your card or phone come with a side order of fees for the business and algorithmic judgement for the consumer.

Give the plastic a rest. Get some cash and get that feeling of being in total control!

In Esperence WA, the butcher is taking a stand against bank fees.

They spent years telling us this was the future - and then slapped on $billions worth of fees. We are rolling back the clock this Friday 23rd. To help us beat rising merchant fees we are (hopefully) ditching the EFT terminal for the day.

For those who have posted negatively - it’s interesting that you know me, my business and how it actually operates, given that all your profiles are not just locked, but are from the other side of the country.

Why are you so threatened by a small business encouraging the use of cash for a single day? A simple reminder that cash is still legal tender, and an encouragement to utilise that legal tender has resulted in (veiled) threats towards myself? Give yourselves a round of applause.
