When card surcharging is banned and small business gets slugged the full price of accepting card and phone payments, we will all be asked to pay with cash again.

Australia's ban on card surcharging means small business will be hit hard by bank fees and all prices will rise UNLESS we all pay with cash again ...

Make a stand against bank fees and charges. We have a right to choose how we pay.

Post agents are doing the bank's job

The recent burglary at Miner’s Rest LPO highlights the frighteningly inadequate security and support for Bank@Post services.

Australia Post Licensee Deidre Nichols told The Ballarat Courier:

"It does unnerve you because you think, 'have they been in here? Have they been watching the place?.’

"It sort of feels as if they've stolen a bit of our mojo."

Thieves broke into the Miners Rest Licensed Post Office and dragged the Bank@Post safe down the road.

Every town needs cash but most towns don't have bank branches anymore. Small businesses are providing banking services - without the resources of a bank.

Hi Cash Lovers, Licensed Post Offices are often the last outpost of the cash distribution system. When banks close their branches and ATMs, sometimes the post office is the only source of cash in a town. I've made a submission in to the Senate's Australia Post Retail Network Inquiry asking for more....

The banks propose to charge more for cash deliveries to regional and remote Australia and less in the cities.

Cash is "essential" in "remote areas including First Nations communities where digital services are less reliable" says the RBA.

So the banks propose to slug Aussies in remote communities the most for accessing our legal tender.

"Cash is meant to be the great leveller, the one thing that works the same in Wagga as it does in the Sydney CBD," says Tech Journo Alex Zaharov-Reutt in PayDay News.

"A four-tier delivery price writes the postcode back into the cost, and the people who feel it are the ones the whole exercise says it wants to protect."

Small business "is going to have to find tens of thousands of dollars for merchant fees very quickly."

Accepting card payments is about to get a lot more expensive for many small businesses. The government's card surcharging ban takes effect on the 1 October.

"Free EFTPOS" deals for small business are about to disappear. So are those little signs at the cash register about Visa, Mastercard and eftpos fees.

"This is the website that should have been created by payment service providers but has not and that’s for a very specific reason," said payments expert Brad Kelly in PayDay News last week.

"It’s creator, Manu Zafar has done what no one else seems to have had the courage to create.

"The message is clear. Merchants are going to have to find tens of thousands of dollars in merchant fees very quickly."
