Mate’s Gift is an organisation that honours Mate, an Indonesian street dog, who’s legacy continues to help street dogs & cats in remote villages of South East Asia.

Kindness travels 💚💚

What started with an incredibly generous donation from Perfect Companion to Toba Animal Friends Sumatra has now reached animals and the people who care for them across North Sumatra.

Thanks to the wonderful team at Toba Animal Friends, and especially Ansa Nita, this food was shared with and has already found its way into the hands of dedicated animal lovers around Medan Zoo and surrounding communities.

Ibu Ana Tobing, a long-time cat lover and Medan Zoo staff member, spends her free time feeding cats around her home and at the zoo.

Ibu Situmorang cares for many dogs living near the zoo and is helping distribute food to animals in her neighbourhood.

And our dear friend Rudianto Sembiring and his lovely wife have been busy making sure the food gets where it is needed, while taking time to feed some of the cats themselves.

This is what community looks like.

People helping people.
People helping animals.
And kindness being shared again and again.

We are just so incredibly grateful. 💚

Perfect Companion very generously donated a huge amount of dog food to Toba Animal Friends, and Toba Animal Friends Sumatra then shared that gift with Mate’s Gift.

We were expecting around 500 kg, but were absolutely blown away to receive almost 2 tonnes of food.

Thanks to this incredible generosity, food has already been distributed to Tangkahan, Batu Katak and Bukit Lawang, with deliveries still to come to Batu Rongring, the dogs around the zoo and the village near the zoo on Monday.

This extraordinary gift will make a real difference to the lives of so many dogs and cats, and to the people who love and care for them. It means fewer hungry bellies, less stress for rescuers and families, and hope for communities doing their very best with very limited resources.

A huge thank you to Anita and the team at Toba Animal Friends for their kindness and for making the collection and distribution so seamless, and to Rudi, a dear friend of Mate’s Gift, for helping ensure this precious food reached the animals who need it most.
