🎵 Music Licensing for Dance Schools - Free Webinar 🎵

Join Ausdance and fellow dance industry leaders from the Royal Academy of Dance, Cecchetti Ballet Australia, Dance Research Australasia and the Australian Institute of Classical Dance, alongside OneMusic, for a practical session unpacking the facts about music licensing for Australian dance and performance schools.

The session on 13 October will explore the OneMusic Dance and Performance Schools and Instructors licence, syllabus music, concerts and online video, APRA Dramatic Context and Eisteddfod licensing, as well as how to ensure your fees reflect your current operations. You’ll also learn where licensing fees go and how licensing supports the music creators whose work is integral to dance education and performance.

The 2026 Kwabo Creative Industries Incubator is a free 10-week professional development program designed by and for People of Colour — and there’s only a few days left to apply.

Whether you’re an emerging artist, creative, international student or someone looking to build your skills and experience in the creative industries, the Incubator offers practical, hands-on experience across:

🎭 Artistic Production
📋 Creative & Event Management
🎬 Stage & Production Management

Led by experienced industry professionals, the program combines workshops, mentoring and real-world project experience, giving participants the opportunity to build skills, confidence and professional networks while developing their creative practice.

Participants may also be considered for paid industry placement opportunities in 2026–2027, creating a pathway to valuable workplace experience and future employment.

And it doesn’t stop at the workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to put their skills into practice through a public community outcome at Kwabo Fest 2026.

Big change doesn’t happen alone 🤝

Recently, partners from across VicHealth’s Shifting the Playbook initiative came together to connect, share ideas, and strengthen the work we’re doing alongside Culturally and Racially Marginalised communities across Victoria.

Bringing together community organisations, artists, arts organisations, education providers and local councils, the initiative is creating space for shared learning, collaboration and new approaches to cultural safety, participation, representation, employment, and wellbeing.

These conversations are an important part of building lasting change. By sharing knowledge, experiences, and ideas across sectors, we can strengthen the work happening in our communities and create healthier, more inclusive futures.

HARAMBEE Creative Futures is one of the projects contributing to this broader movement. Delivered in partnership with Ausdance VIC and Kwabo Events, the 3.5-year initiative is working to create culturally safe pathways, employment opportunities, and greater representation for People of Colour across Victoria’s creative industries.

🎭 Cultivating Creative Cultures with Communities (4Cs)

Opening night is TONIGHT! 🎉

Celebrating its 20th year, 4Cs returns to Bunjil Place for four nights of performance celebrating cultural diversity, creativity and community.

Featuring talented students from Years 3–12 across the City of Casey and Melbourne, the program brings together performances inspired by culture, identity and community, with students taking the lead in sharing their stories through the performing and visual arts.

🩰 What can force plates actually tell us about a dancer?

Returning to dance after injury isn’t as simple as feeling strong or being able to jump as high as you did before. Sometimes, what’s happening beneath the surface can tell us much more.

In our latest blog by physiotherapist Will Beck explores how force plates can provide objective insights into strength, power, symmetry and how a dancer produces and absorbs force.

But force plates aren’t a magic answer, they don’t replace clinical assessment or determine when you’re ready to return to performance. Instead, they can be another valuable tool to help dancers and clinicians understand the body and make more informed decisions throughout rehabilitation.

As part of the IADMS 36th Annual Conference, Safe in Dance International (SiDI) presents 'Building and Promoting Positive Experiences in Dance'.

Through panel discussion and audience participation, the session will explore practical approaches to:

✨ Promote equitable and healthy dance practice

We’re excited to welcome James Maxfield to ON STAGE Industry Day, where he’ll lead students through a Commercial workshop.

With a career spanning more than 20 years, James is one of Australia’s most versatile performers and creatives. His credits include the original Australian casts of Wicked and Hamilton, performances with artists including Taylor Swift, Kylie Minogue and Rita Ora, and choreography and creative direction across The Voice Australia, Dancing On Ice, The Masked Singer and major live events.
