ASRC Foodbank

ASRC Foodbank The ASRC Foodbank operates as a free grocery store for people seeking asylum who have nowhere else t Food can be donated in person or purchased online.

Since the onset of Covid, our self-select Foodbank has temporarily switched to a pre-packed model. We provide food, toiletries and other household essentials to more than 1000 people. Most of these people rely on the ASRC Foodbank as their only source of food as they have no work rights and no income. The majority of this food is donated by the community, including schools, individuals, families,

religious groups and other community groups. We cannot continue to provide this service without your support. Further information can be found on our website https://asrc.org.au/ways-to-give/donate-food-and-goods/

Please check our pinned post to see which items are most urgently needed right now. Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.

A huge thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Brighton Bayside Incorporated for donating $520 worth of food to the ASRC Foodbank. πŸ’œ

After learning about our work through Margaret Nelson, club members came together to collect a carload of essential items for refugees and people seeking asylum.

We are so grateful for your generosity and look forward to continuing this wonderful community connection.

We’re currently in need of:

πŸ“ Jam
πŸ₯œ Peanut butter
🍯 Honey
πŸ«™ Tahini

These everyday favourites mean a great deal to members visiting the ASRC Foodbank.

As our wonderful volunteer Nicolette shares, we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who continues to keep our shelves stocked. If you’re able to add one of these items to your next shop and donate it, we would be so thankful.

Every item counts. Every act helps. πŸ’œ

An incredible $14,510 worth of essential items has been donated to the ASRC Foodbank thanks to a wonderful community effort across Bendigo. πŸ’œ

The donation was made possible through a collaboration between the Amnesty Australia Bendigo Group, Grandmothers for Refugees Bendigo Group and Rural Australians for Refugees Bendigo Group.

Coordinated by Gillian and John Wells, the month-long food drive included collection boxes at Woolworths stores across Bendigo, making it easier for members of the community to donate while learning more about the work of the ASRC.

A huge thank you to Gillian and John, all three community groups, and every person who contributed. Your generosity will help keep the ASRC Foodbank stocked for refugees and people seeking asylum.

Our Dandenong Winter Food Drive wrapped up with an incredible show of support, with 2,820 essential food and personal care items donated – worth around $12,000 for refugees and people seeking asylum.

Thank you to everyone who came along, including Deputy Mayor Phillip Danh, Mayor Stefan Koomen and Mayor Brett Owen, who joined us with donations of their own.

Thank you to everyone who donated, showed up and spoke up this winter. πŸ’œ Together, we're showing that community, compassion and love are stronger than fear.

A huge thank you to Bronwyn, one of our incredible kitchen volunteers. πŸ’œ

Bronwyn shared that she enjoys volunteering in the kitchen, cooking for our wonderful members and making sure they have nutritious, well-balanced meals when they come in.

It’s volunteers like Bronwyn who help turn a simple meal into something much more, creating comfort, dignity and connection for everyone who walks through our doors.

We are so deeply grateful for the time, energy and heart you bring to our community.

A huge thank you to Amazon.com.au MEL1 in Dandenong South for three years of partnership and support for our Foodbank. πŸ’œ

Their team has helped keep our shelves stocked through funding and packing pantry staples for our foodbanks. In the last two sessions alone, they packed 1,800kg of basmati rice, over 100kg of sugar, 50kg of salt and 40kg of mung beans.

This kind of support makes a real difference.
