Nightspotting with Bronte!

What a terrific turnout of enthusiastic Possum Spotters joined the amazingly knowledgeable Dr Bronte Van Helden for the Annual Western Ringtail Possum Tally recently, & as part of the WA Tree Festival with The City of Albany. In our third year running this event, we were fully booked again, with everyone excited & enchanted by our reserve's furry little critters! It was a beautiful still evening & we spied five WRP for the Tally.
We are so lucky & grateful to have such a wealth of expertise locally available!

Bronte is currently South Coast Natural Resource Management's Threatened Species lead, whose Phd was on the WRP of Albany. We are deeply grateful for her sharing her passion with us!

The WRP Tally is coordinated in Albany by the Oyster Harbour Catchment Group Inc. Big thanks to Cassie Dressler who joined us for the talk to upskill us all with the new digital Tally site.

Shoutout to Kylie at CoA who coordinated another great, diverse Tree Fest program for Albany!

We Barmup volis love joining in these inspiring citizen science opportunities!

In a few weeks, our CEO will have the privilege of representing South Coast NRM on the other side of the world at London Climate Action Week — co-hosting Grounded | Nature & Climate Solutions in Practice — UK & Western Australia with The Superpower Institute.

Grounded is a practitioner-led panel and networking reception built around a straightforward premise: the people doing the most important work in nature and climate transition are often the least visible. The farmers negotiating new income models on their land. The conservation workers rebuilding ecosystems at landscape scale. The Indigenous land managers whose knowledge underpins so much of what we do. The community leaders holding it all together.

This event brings those voices to London Climate Action Week.

The panellists — Fife Coast & Countryside Trust, University of St Andrews, Rebalance Earth, Oyster Heaven, and Northstar Transition — represent organisations working at the frontline of nature and climate transition across Australia and the UK. The conversation will cover what's actually working, what hasn't, and what it genuinely takes to drive change at scale.

Free to attend, registration via Link ⤵, and open to all.

South Coast NRM recently attended the Carbon Farming Industry Forum in Fremantle, where industry leaders, researchers, investors, farmers and NRM organisations came together to explore the future of carbon, biodiversity and natural capital in Australia.

Discussions highlighted the growing importance of integrated land use planning, the emerging nature repair market, and the role regional NRMs can play as trusted, neutral brokers supporting landholders and delivering practical on-ground outcomes.

The forum reinforced the need to stay engaged, informed, and ready for the opportunities emerging across carbon and nature markets
