Aaahhh…The way to their hearts….

Morning tea, smoko or feed is a daily treat at the Menshed where the fellas can meet, sit down and enjoy a light meal or snack and a welcome cuppa or coffee. Each morning around 10 the air ho**er blasts out its mating call and our willing workers obediently stream in and sit down to a generous serving of things like sandwiches, cakes and biscuits, cheese sausages and dimmies, fruit toast, sausage rolls and party pies, plus whatever else our amazing cooking team prepares. Smoko is a great way for the men to leave their work and relax amongst others and chat over whatever comes to mind or watts been happening in their lives and their families. It’s also a perfect time for the Menshed committee to relate key issues for consideration to the group.

Morning tea is every Tuesday , Thursday and Saturday morning….with an extra treat in Saturday’s with a sausage sizzle lunch. Aside from the scheduled morning teas and sizzles, members are also able to sit and drink bottomless tea or coffee at any time during opening hours.

Here we have a general shot of the men enjoying themselves, and one of Tony and George and Geoff enjoying themselves with a mini-feast after a hard start to the day. On the day of this photo, Tony and George has been hard it it for a couple hours already and solved the world’s problems (again) and Geoff had cut up a truck load of pallets for the kindling team….well done fellas!!

What a great guy!

Introducing Merv who has been a Menshed member for many years and is always coming up with unique projects using recycling principles…..his work over a long period of time has focussed on making amazing projects come to life and giving often discarded materials a new life. This is his latest piece of work and it’s come up a ripper with different jarrah textures in the shelves all fixed to a tough jarrah base. Well done, Merv…another terrific job well done!

Oh, forgot to mention….besides his own projects, Merv does an amazing job as part of a small machinery maintenance team which keeps the Menshed tools and hardware ticking over. (More on these guys to come…)

Thanks, Merv, for being an inspiration to others in what you create but also what you do to make sure members have efficient and safe machines to work with.

MORE EXPERTS WANTED…PLEASE CONTACT THE ALBANY MENSHED!

Well, as you’d imagine, we have a lot of knowledgeable ( read “expert advisors” ) men at the Shed and they were out in full force today making sure everything went to plan as it should do! John was convinced his planning for a wooden spoon was foolproof but, as advice would have it from several of our keen advisors, it turned out he has missed a few finer points and needed some adjustments. Thank goodness for the collective advice of his mates he now has this new masterpiece! 😀😀 It’s a little bigger and differently shaped than he’d imagined….try stirring your cuppa with that! It’s amazing what advice and guidance can bring 😂😂😂

Seriously…. The Shed is full of people willing and wanting to help and we love having all the advice and involvement we can and that everyone contributes in whichever way they can. Some of our members’ best achievements come from those incidental shoulder-to shoulder moments when blokes share things and work together to get a job done, or a possibility gets imagined, or a situation is created where we discuss how life is going…

All new ‘experts’ are welcomed to join our own and together continue building such a wonderful part of our community. Give us a call and give it a go…….every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning.

It’s been another busy week at the Menshed with lots of exciting projects and activity -especially in the kindling sales area. Kindling is selling FAST as winter descends upon as and well over 100 bags have already been loaded for happy customers. Remember to drop by soon if you wish to buy a bag or two - we’ll load them for you with a big and thankful smile. Bags are $15 each and cash is preferred but EFTPOS is also available.

If you’ve ever thought of joining the Menshed - or know of someone who might like to or benefit from being a member - the Shed is always ready to meet you or them and show the facilities and run through the “ins and outs” of the place, how it operates and what needs to be done to become a full member. There is an initial orientation of the many facilities as well as a chat about what people would like to do, and then followed by an actual registration which is only $80.00 a year. Interested people can even “try before they buy” with a 1-2 week trial to see if things suit them. Training on all Menshed machines is also provided so that everyone feels comfortable and, most importantly, is safe when using machines and tools. We even provide a mentor for a month or two….someone who is available to meet and greet, show the ropes and provide useful tips and ideas to make membership a wonderful experience.

The Menshed offers areas like woodworking, woodturning, metalwork, furniture restoration, bench and table construction, kindling support with our hardworking team, gardening, administration support, help in the kitchen and so on. Anyone who has a particular interest outside of these is also welcomed and we will endeavour to accommodate your specific needs and tastes.

If there is anyone interest, you can either drop down on any Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday morning and ask for assistance, or arrange a meeting by contacting Gary on 0457 152 630, or Mike on 0417 967 368.

These are just a few photos of the Menshed facilities and members at work….everyone is looked after - even our resident dog seen getting a feed of Allan!

Well.....what has our Tony done this time? Tony is a longstanding Menshed member who's always coming up with an innovative way to adapt and recycle things into wonderful pieces of work. He has taught himself how to resin timber and is a go-to person for other members wanting similar knowledge. He recently completed a beautiful resined coffee table top and now onto a couple of pieces for a fellow Shed member using recycled wood, coffee beans and resin...well done, Tony - you've given many others confidence with your can-do attitude!

There's always great work being done at the Menshed and it's awesome to see the developing skills of our members...many gain advice and lessons from other members, and many develop and improve their own through ongoing work, online inspiration and sheer perseverance.

Here Jason shows two projects he recently did....a lovely recycled coat hanging board using old jarrah and railways spikes, and a beautiful layered breadboard. Each section of the breadboard was handmade and meticulously joined together during the assemble. A great couple of pieces, Jason!

Did you know that the Albany Menshed also does furniture restoration? We have a highly skilled team able to transform the old into the new, ranging from chairs, tables, sideboards, chests of drawers and so on. The team has a history of many years in this area from past professional and hobby activity. If you have a particular job or query in this area, feel free to drop down to the Shed and speak with Peter, Danny and the team, send the Menshed a message with your query or call Gary on 0457 152 630 or Mike on 0417 967 368.

Ahh....if only some of us ol' Shedders were chairs, we could look a whole lot younger 😂
