Gondwana Link

Gondwana Link Individual land owners are also contributing wonderful on-ground restoration works.

Over 40 independent member groups and affiliates, as well as a small core unit (Gondwana Link Ltd) are working together to achieve a shared vision: 'Reconnected country, from the wet forests of the far south-west to the woodland and mallee bordering the Nullarbor Plain, in which ecosystem function and biodiversity are restored and maintained.'

The involvement of international, national, state an

d local groups, as well as the knowledge and expertise of businesses and local people, has enabled us to tackle this vision in numerous ways, including strategic land purchase and restoration, improved land management, scientific research and monitoring, development and implementation of ecologically focused Conservation Action Plans, high-standard restoration plantings, and advocacy. The support and involvement of Traditional Owners, from the Noongar and Ngadju communities, is much appreciated. Built primarily from the generosity of some wonderful donors, the program has grown through ongoing donations from thousands of generous individuals and foundations, grants from a number of government programs, from commercial arrangements and from the on-ground work of individual landholders and community members across the Link. Lead groups are working across all major habitat gaps and in the Great Western Woodlands. Donations can go directly to those groups, or to support the overall work of Gondwana Link Ltd (whose membership is made up of those groups).

Locals care passionately for Greens Pool — and with around 600,000 visitors in the past 12 months, that care has never been more important. Our latest Heartland Journeys story celebrates the people who dedicate their time to understanding and protecting this remarkable place and its biodiversity.
Narrated by Nicole Hodgson and featuring the voices and stunning underwater photography of Bernard Wong, Tim Gamblin and Susan Hawson, we hope you will love this encounter with the ‘Green Temple’:

You know those days when it's hot and dry, then suddenly it's cold and wet. Yep, that's our working life as well, even when stuck in the office. Spent the morning on some eastern wheatbelt planning (news coming soon), then to the other end of the climate gradient to look over a cooperative venture being planned with the wonderful folk from Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee (WICC). And then we spotted this inspiring post about their wetland work. It's magnificent country!

Delighted to have our CEO Keith Bradby featured, along with other advocates, in a new article and podcast for the ambitious SBS series titled 'Australia Explained'.
(Spoiler alert - it doesn't strip away all the wonderful mystery from this wonderful continent, but does well with what we know so far).

Well done Phil Tucak - the Wildlife Outreach Vet.

Australia is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, home to wildlife and plant species found nowhere else on the planet. In this episode of Australia Explained you’ll learn about what makes Australia’s biodiversity so special, the threats it faces and how we can all help protect it.

Congratulations to Gondwana Link's wonderful Chairperson, the extraordinary Louise Duxbury, who has just been awarded the Conservation Council of WA's Bessie Rischbieth Conservation Award, tagged by them as "our most prestigious award, presented to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the WA environment, and who has had the courage to challenge government and non-government decision makers". That does just about seem to sum up Louise's adult life!!

We are very proud that Louise is part of our collective effort, and very much appreciate the strong guidance and support she provides.

Congratulations Louise!!!!

Precious heritage tingle trees and the ecosystem they belong to need urgent protection from the WA Government’s imminent prescribed burn, this time in the Mount Clare area. We're cranky that the WA Government is actively degrading the ecological health of the Walpole Wilderness through their outdated burning practices. Here's a chance to express your solidarity by joining with others at Mount Clare, just west of Walpole, at 11.00 am this Sunday, 14 Dec. More details on the poster below.

You’re invited! ‘One Thousand Kilometres of Hope’: Listening, Painting and Reconnecting Across the Gondwana Link’ is the title of an art installation that will be exhibited at the Albany Town Hall from 12 December until 17 January (as part of the larger ‘Radical Futures: Fertile Ground’ exhibition).
How wonderful for the Gondwana Link program to be the focus of a sound and visual collaboration by landscape painter Carly Le Cerf and sound artist and composer Jean-Michel Maujean. Their creativity offers a fresh, exciting way for people to engage with the ecological and cultural ambition of the Gondwana Link.
Carly and Jean-Michel tell the story of their Gondwana Link arts project in the latest Southerly Magazine (Dec edition) and it’s also on Gondwana Link’s Heartland Journeys website: https://heartlandjourneys.com.au/stories/one-thousand-kilometres-of-hope-2/
Read their story and feel inspired to head to the Albany Town Hall.
(Visit the City of Albany's ‘What’s On’ page for information about the exhibition.)
