๐Ÿ“ฃ Advance Housing is pleased to announce the appointment of Wauters Building Company, to construct 36 new social and affordable homes in Albany.

๐Ÿก The $21.8 million project, delivered in partnership with the WA and Commonwealth Governments, represents Advance Housing's largest investment to date. The project will provide a mix of 25 social homes and 11 affordable rental homes in the growing Bayonet Head community.

๐ŸŒฟ The thoughtfully designed homes will provide high levels of energy efficiency, private outdoor spaces, and landscaped communal areas that support liveability and connection.

๐Ÿงฑ The appointment of Wauters follows a robust and transparent procurement process, reinforcing Advance Housing's commitment to quality, value for money, and demonstrated community outcomes.

๐Ÿ“‹ Central to this process was the use of the panel of pre-qualified commercial builders, established by Advance Housing.

โœจ This milestone reflects not only a rigorous procurement process, but also a shared commitment to deliver modern community housing that is high quality, well-managed, and built to fit in.

โœจ A behind-the-Scenes Look at Student Accommodation โœจ

It was a pleasure hosting local Katanning Senior High School students recently for a tour of our tertiary student accommodation! While we might not have seen many smiles in the photo (we know the Gen Z stare is in ๐Ÿ˜„), weโ€™ve been reassured the experience was insightful and valuable - and thatโ€™s what matters most.

It great to provide students a genuine glimpse into what life beyond school can look like, and providing quality, affordable housing that meets community needs is at the heart of what we do.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Advance Housing is excited to share that Stage One of our refurbishment program is now completed!

๐Ÿชด This full refurbishment process has converted three older homes into near-near homes that are more energy efficient, accessible and livable.

๐ŸŽ‰ To celebrate this milestone, we've put together a behind-the-scenes before-and-after video to show just how far this space has come.

Check out the video for a glimpse at the transformation.

Made possible with the support of the Department of Housing and Works.

More refurbishment updates will follow, as we move into the next stage!

Special thanks to Sebastian Bailey for assistance with editing.

โญ It was amazing to hear directly from young people and frontline Youth Workers. AYSA Youth Worker, Chrystie, explained that a Great Southern Youth Foyer is "absolutely needed" in Albany to support better outcomes for regional youth.

Seeing firsthand:
๐Ÿ”ด A young person sleeping in a box behind a shopping centre while still attempting to go to school and play sport to have a shower.
๐Ÿ”ด Young people working, while living in a tent, staying at an unpowered caravan site for $350/ week given a lack of available, affordable housing.
๐Ÿ”ด Young people dropping out of education, given unstable housing situations and leaving the region given a lack of local supported housing options.

In Albany WA, the housing crisis is hitting young people hard.

๐Ÿ”“ We have a plan to change this.

Advance Housing and Albany Youth Support Association is ready to deliver:
๐Ÿ”‘ 10 bed youth refuge to provide immediate safety
๐Ÿ”‘ 50 transitional beds to provide a two-year pathway to independence.

The Youth Foyer model works. Across Australia, 80% of young people exits Foyers into stable housing, employment, and education.

According to Chrystie, a Great Southern Youth Foyer would "make a massive difference, adding safety and support to young people".

โœ… Partners are ready
โœ… Land, concept designs and builders panel are ready
โœ… Funding applications have been submitted
โœ… Local government and community leaders are ready
โœ… Young people are ready

All we need now is to secure government funding to make this happen.

๐Ÿ”’ Seeing first-hand how young people are locked out of the housing market for both renting and buying, Jeremy Stewart, explains why a Great Southern Youth Foyer is needed in Albany.

As Principal of Merrifield Real Estate, Jeremy sees:
๐Ÿ”ดAn undersupply of housing for young people
๐Ÿ”ดThe average young person lives at home until 28 years
๐Ÿ”ดYoung people with no rental history and lower incomes locked out of the housing market

With a private vacancy rate of 0.2% (December 2025) and growing social housing wait lists, the chance of a young person who is unable to live at home securing housing in this market is next to zero.

Thatโ€™s why the Great Southern Youth Foyer project is so vital.

๐Ÿ”“ By combining 10 crisis beds with 50 transitional beds with onsite support, unlocks opportunities for young people, with benefit the whole community.

The Youth Foyer model works. Across Australia, 80% of young people exit Foyers into stable housing, employment, and education.
