โญ It was amazing to hear directly from young people and frontline Youth Workers. AYSA Youth Worker, Chrystie, explained that a Great Southern Youth Foyer is "absolutely needed" in Albany to support better outcomes for regional youth.
Seeing firsthand:
๐ด A young person sleeping in a box behind a shopping centre while still attempting to go to school and play sport to have a shower.
๐ด Young people working, while living in a tent, staying at an unpowered caravan site for $350/ week given a lack of available, affordable housing.
๐ด Young people dropping out of education, given unstable housing situations and leaving the region given a lack of local supported housing options.
In Albany WA, the housing crisis is hitting young people hard.
๐ We have a plan to change this.
Advance Housing and Albany Youth Support Association is ready to deliver:
๐ 10 bed youth refuge to provide immediate safety
๐ 50 transitional beds to provide a two-year pathway to independence.
The Youth Foyer model works. Across Australia, 80% of young people exits Foyers into stable housing, employment, and education.
According to Chrystie, a Great Southern Youth Foyer would "make a massive difference, adding safety and support to young people".
