On Saturday, Jess and Kirstina attended the 'Reconciliation in Action' workshop with Jessica Staines from Koori Curriculum.

We would like to say a big thank you to one of our families - Tara & Scott, for sponsoring a ticket for our educators to attend 🥰

The day was filled with learning, reflection, and meaningful conversations as they joined educators from a variety of services, all at different stages of their own reconciliation journeys. Together, they explored practical ways to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and further strengthen their commitment to embedding Aboriginal and Zenadth Kes (Formally known as Torres Strait Islander people) perspectives within their service.

The workshop also provided valuable opportunities to connect with like-minded educators, share ideas, learn from one another, and build relationships that will support ongoing reconciliation work.

This experience reinforced the importance of reconciliation not being a destination but as an 'ongoing' journey of listening, learning, reflecting, and taking action. It aligns closely with the EYLF V2.0 principles of Respect for Diversity and Aboriginal and Zenadth Kes Perspectives, the practice of Cultural Responsiveness, and supports children's sense of identity, belonging, and connection to their world (Outcomes 1 & 2).

A few weeks ago we put the call out to families and the wider community that we were in need of gum boots to keep at the centre. And our community delivered!
Thank you to all of our families who do donated so many pairs and Bunnings Parafield and Rhiannon Pearce MP for donating some colourful new boots to add to our collection!

We are always incredibly grateful as a community non-for-profit centre for the generosity of the people within our community.

Our children are looking forward to the next rainy muddy day to put the boots to good use! 🌧🌦

🎉 WE DID IT! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to share with our families and community that we have progressed from Working Towards the National Quality Standard to Meeting the National Quality Standard!

This achievement reflects what can be accomplished through consistency, collaboration, and a team that remains focused on what matters most! The children in our care.

Over time, our team has worked tirelessly to strengthen our practices, reflect on our work, and implement meaningful improvements across our service. To have those efforts formally recognised is something we are extremely proud of.

This result is not just about meeting a standard; it is a reflection of the dedication, passion, and commitment our educators bring each and every day.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing educators, supportive families, and wider community who have been part of this journey. Your trust, encouragement, and partnership have helped make this achievement possible.

Here's to celebrating this milestone and continuing to provide the high quality education and care for our children.

This week, the children have been exploring meaningful experiences for Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day. Through storytelling, sensory play, music, art, and imaginative play, the children learnt about caring for the land, Aboriginal culture, and the importance of connection and respect.
The children explored natural textures, Aboriginal symbols, Kaurna language, native animals, and creative experiences using the colours of the Aboriginal flag. We also enjoyed shared stories, group discussions, and outdoor picnic experiences while listening to Kaurna music.
These experiences supported the children to build curiosity, respect, belonging, and appreciation for Aboriginal and Zenadth Kes histories, cultures, and perspectives.

Jess and Amanda had an amazing day at Reconciliation in the West in Port Adelaide, immersing themselves in Aboriginal & Zenadth Kes culture. From incredible food, music, dance and language to meaningful conversations, networking and new friendships, the day was filled with connection, learning and celebration. A truly special experience shared with an amazing community.

Today the Naalha Kuu children went on an exciting adventure to the local playground to further extend on their current interest in the trajectory play schema, including rolling, throwing, jumping, climbing, and exploring movement through play.

Before heading out, the children eagerly put on their wetsuits, ready for some messy outdoor fun. They delighted in jumping through puddles, laughing as the water splashed high into the air around them. This sensory experience encouraged the children to explore cause and effect while developing their balance, coordination, and confidence in movement.

Together, the educators and toddlers walked through the empty creek bed, re-enacting the much-loved story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.” The children used their bodies to move through different environments, climbing, stepping, balancing, and exploring the natural surroundings with curiosity and excitement.

Through this experience, the children were able to strengthen their gross motor skills, build confidence in their physical abilities, and connect movement with storytelling and imaginative play in a meaningful and engaging way.

The toddlers absolutely loved that we embraced the weather and still had the opportunity to explore and learn outdoors, even with the rain around us. It was wonderful to see so much joy, curiosity, and excitement throughout the adventure.

This National Volunteer Week, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who support our centre and community.

From our handy maintenance volunteers who help keep our environment safe to the parents and caregivers who generously give their time to join us on excursions and special events and working bees; your support is truly valued.

We would also like to acknowledge our dedicated Management Committee for the ongoing commitment, time, and care you contribute behind the scenes to help our service continue to grow and thrive.

As a not-for-profit community centre, we simply could not do what we do without the kindness, generosity, and support of our volunteers. Your contributions make a meaningful difference to the children, families, and educators in our community.

Thank you for being such an important part of our village.
