FAWUZ MOURNS COACH BRUCE MWAPE

It is with heavy hearts that the Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia - FAWUZ mourns the passing of Coach Bruce Mwape.

Coach Mwape, 67, was more than a coach. He was a builder of dreams. He led the Copper Queens to our first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, two Olympic Tournaments, and a historic bronze at the 2022 WAFCON.

Through his work, he opened doors for many of our members and showed the world what Zambian women’s football is capable of.

_"Coach Mwape gave his life to the game. He believed in our players and fought to put Zambia on the global map. We have lost a mentor, a leader, and a true servant of football,"_ said FAWUZ General Secretary, Mr. Joe Kaunda.

On behalf of our Executive and all members, we send our deepest condolences to the Mwape family, FAZ, the Copper Queens, and the entire football family.

Rest in peace, Coach. Your legacy will live on in every girl who picks up a ball.

FAWUZ COMMITS TO PARTNERSHIP WITH FAZ

ZAMBIA's footballers union Vice-President, Mr. Noel Mwandila has committed to working closely with Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to further the development of football and the welfare of players in the country.
Mr. Mwandila was speaking at Football House on Friday when he led a delegation from the Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) during a courtesy call on recently appointed FAZ General Secretary Mr. Charles Chakatazya and Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Iva Lengwe.
He said the Union remained committed to fostering partnership with the federation in line with the cooperation between their mother bodies football global governing body FIFA and Fifpro, the world players union's mother body who just signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance their collaboration.
Mr. Mwandila hailed Mr. Chakatazya and his deputy, Mr. Lengwe as seasoned administrators who would help to continue to steer FAZ to increased success. Among the issues discussed were proposed measures towards establishing a National Dispute Resolution Chamber as is practise in other FIFA national member associations aimed at expedited resolution of player and club disputes including puting in place a Collective Bargaining Agreement for the football industry.
Also tackled were matters related to player welfare including the need for timely resolution of disputes before FAZ judicial bodies.
And Noel Mwandila has announced Zambia's hosting of the FIFPRO AFRICA General Assembly in Lusaka next year, the first time the country will play host and asked for the federation's support towards the event's success.
The hosting will also see the celebration of FIFPRO AFRICA's 20th anniversary of its launch.
Zambia was selected to host the player's unions annual continental gathering at the 2026 General Assembly held in Nairobi, Kenya early this month.
Mwandila was accompanied by FAWUZ General Secretary, Mr. Joe Kaunda and Legal Counsel Mr. Friday Mwandila.

FIFPRO AND FIFA SIGN MOU

Memorandum of Understanding marks paradigm shift in governance of professional football, with transfer system and player welfare standards to be agreed collectively through newly established Global Social Dialogue Platform chaired by FIFA
All legal proceedings initiated by FIFPRO, its continental divisions and member unions against FIFA, as well as any support for such proceedings, to be withdrawn
FIFPRO recognised as the global representative body for professional football players, and as the social partner representing players as employees
On the eve of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, FIFA and FIFPRO have concluded a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), opening a new chapter in cooperation between the two organisations and football governance in general. The agreement, which comes into effect immediately and runs until 31 December 2031, establishes a modern governance framework based on social dialogue, strengthens FIFPRO’s representation within FIFA’s institutional structures, and paves the way for close collaboration on a series of matters of mutual interest.

In light of the MoU and the commitments contained therein, FIFPRO and its continental divisions have taken the decision to withdraw all existing legal proceedings against FIFA, as well as any support for such proceedings, and to refrain from initiating or supporting any future legal proceedings outside football’s regulatory framework. FIFPRO will further ensure that its member unions withdraw their support for and cease to be party to any legal proceedings against FIFA.

At the heart of the MoU is the establishment of a Global Social Dialogue Platform for professional football, chaired and administered by FIFA, which will bring together employers (clubs and leagues) and employees (players), with the participation of the confederations. FIFPRO is recognised as the global social partner representing players as employees, alongside the World Leagues Association (WLA) and European Football Clubs (EFC) as social partners representing leagues and clubs, respectively, as employers.

The platform will be governed by jointly agreed rules of procedure and will include dedicated workstreams on: (i) the transfer system and regulatory matters; (ii) domestic transfer systems and support for social dialogue; and (iii) player welfare and occupational safety and health standards
