On Elder Abuse Awareness Day, our dedicated carers at NID Elderly Care spent quality time with our elderly Deaf residents, sharing laughter, companionship, and care through fun games and activities. 💜

Every moment of kindness reminds us that respect, dignity, and inclusion matter at every age. Together, we stand against elder abuse and celebrate the value of our senior community.

🎉 Meet the newest member of the NID family! 🎉

As part of our 145th birthday celebrations, our brand-new NID mascot made a surprise appearance, bringing smiles, laughter, and plenty of excitement to our staff and residents.

From warm hugs to happy high-fives, our mascot's first visit was filled with joy and connection – a wonderful reminder of the spirit that has united the NID family for 145 years.

We can't wait for you to join us on many more adventures as we celebrate our past, embrace our present, and look forward to an exciting future together. 💙

🎬 💔Jy is hardhorend. "Jy sal nie 'n TV-aanbieder kan wees nie."

Ek weet nie hoeveel keer mense na my gekyk het en net my disability gesien het nie.

Nie my drome nie.
Nie my potensiaal nie.
Nie my hart nie.

Net my cerebral palsy en gehoorverlies.

Maar hier staan ek vandag en so trots om te sê. I PROVE YOU WRONG!!

'n Hardhorende meisie wat haar stem gebruik om Suid-Afrika se harte te verander. ❤️

Verander Jou Siening Seisoen 2 is oppad.

In hierdie reeks daag ek van Suid-Afrika se grootste bekendes uit om vir 'n dag in die lewe van 'n differently abled persoon te leef.

Om hul uitdagings te ervaar.
Om hul wêreld te sien.
Om te ontdek dat daar agter elke disability 'n mens is met drome, liefde, humor, hoop en ongelooflike veerkragtigheid.

Want disabilities gaan nie oor wat mense nie kan doen nie.

Dit gaan oor alles wat hulle elke dag doen ten spyte daarvan.

En elke keer as ek voor die kamera staan, hoop ek iemand daar buite besef:

Jou disability bepaal nie jou toekoms nie.

Die wêreld gaan altyd mense hê wat jou beperkings raaksien.

Maar die regte mense sal jou moontlikhede raaksien.

As jy ooit gevoel het jy is "te anders", "te stukkend" of "nie genoeg nie"...

Hier is jou herinnering:

Jy hoef nie soos almal anders te wees om iets buitengewoons te doen nie. ✨

💙 MEET GARTH: THE HEART AND SOUL OF NID CARE! 🏃‍♂️🏉

​If you ever need a reminder of what pure positivity and determination look like, look no further than Garth Connear!

​At 42 years young, Garth has been a beloved resident at NID Care since 2006.

Though he is Deaf and visually impaired due to glaucoma, he has never let obstacles define him. Instead, he defines himself by his incredible spirit, his eagerness to help others, and his contagious enthusiasm. 🙌

​Here’s a little glimpse into what makes Garth so special:

​A Dedicated Worker: He is a vital and incredibly valued member of our shredding project team. 📄💼

​An Avid Athlete: Garth absolutely loves sports! You can find him smashing goals at the Saturday parkruns, always pushing himself to beat his personal best time. ⏱️👟

​The Ultimate Fan: When he's not running, he’s cheering. Garth is a fiercely passionate supporter of the Springboks! 🇿🇦🏉

​Garth, thank you for inspiring all of us every single day with your smile and your unstoppable drive.

Congratulations to staff member Willie Nieuwenhuys on receiving his Trade Certificate in Plumbing – a testament to his dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

We also honour the memory of Jerome Niewenhuys, whose Trade Certificate in Electrical was received by his life partner Liezel on his behalf. Although Jerome sadly passed away last year, his achievement and legacy continue to inspire us. We are proud to celebrate this milestone and the commitment he showed throughout his journey.

Well done, Willie, and a heartfelt tribute to Jerome. Your accomplishments make us proud.
