A December Mommyโs Story
She is 26 years old.
And on the 3rd of December, she brought a perfect little girl into the world, a tiny heartbeat wrapped in hope, a daughter she loves with every corner of her tired soul.
But love, on its own, doesnโt pay rent.
It doesnโt stretch food.
It doesnโt make space appear where no space exists.
Right now, she is sharing a single room with her cousin and her cousinโs husband, three adults and now soon a newborn, the air already thin, the cupboard already empty.
She has overstayed.
They are struggling.
And she knows it.
A family member offered to โhelp,โ but with a price no mother should ever have to pay.
Give me the baby, but you cannot see her.
Return only when your life is perfect again and even then, you must repay me first.
That isnโt help.
That is heartbreak in a different shape.
And she walked away from that option with tears burning in her throat.
She loves her daughter.
She truly does.
But she has no job, no secure place to stay, no support system stepping in, no one holding her hand while the world shakes under her feet.
The social workers at the hospital, they nod, they listen, but they do not move.
Excuses.
Delays.
Doors that will not open.
She feels like she is drowning with her baby in her arms.
And while the rest of us are decorating trees,
planning meals, rushing for gifts, she is simply trying to breathe.
Trying to choose the safest path in a life that has never offered her an easy one.
She is not a bad mom.
She is not โgiving up.โ
She is a mother with love in her chest
and no ground beneath her feet.
She needs:
โข A safe place to stay
โข A job
โข Gentle guidance
โข A chance
โข Someone to listen
โข A little time to stand up again
โข And the reassurance that she is not walking this alone.
There are so many mothers like her,
quietly breaking, quietly trying, quietly hoping someone will see them before itโs too late.
Tonight, before you sleep,
keep her in your heart.
Because while the world is celebrating,
she is simply trying to survive and still be a mother worth remembering.
