Sunfield Home is a safe haven for intellectually disabled adults, in Wellington at the foot of Bainskloof pass.

Sunfield Home is registered as a non-profit company(NPC) in terms of the Companies Act and operates as a Care Center. Sunfield Home Wellington is registered as a non-profit (NPC) in terms of the Companies Act and operates as a Care Center for Intellectually Disabled Adults. Sunfield has been registered with SARS as an Article 18A institution, which enables us to issue a tax certificate to a donation, which allows you to hand to SARS for tax purposes.

🌻 Casual Day in the Community 🌻
Our social work students and Rocco have been out and about in the community, selling Casual Day stickers and helping spread awareness in support of persons with disabilities.

A big thank you to every business, staff member, friend, supporter and community member who has already bought a sticker or helped us share the message. Your support means so much to Sunfield Home and to the wider Casual Day initiative. 💛

🌻 Help Us Keep Ballet Going at Sunfield Home with a R50 monthly donation!🌻

Our ballet programme has become such a special part of life at Sunfield Home.

Every week, Enid Roode, a professional ballet teacher, visits Sunfield to offer a beautiful hour of movement, music, expression, and joy for our residents. Since March 2025, this programme has brought so much confidence, routine, participation, and happiness to those who attend.

For our residents, ballet is about more than dance.

It is about movement, posture, focus, creativity, confidence, and feeling proud of what they can do. 💛
We would love to keep this meaningful service going, but we currently need more regular support to cover the cost of the programme.

A small monthly contribution can make a big difference. Even R50 per month helps us continue offering this special opportunity to our residents.

If you are a friend of Sunfield, a family member, or someone who believes in the value of meaningful activities for adults with intellectual disabilities, we would be so grateful for your support.

Today, we honour the women who bring warmth, care, strength, patience, and compassion into the lives of others.

At Sunfield Home, we are surrounded by incredible women — our residents, staff, housemothers, caregivers, therapists, volunteers, family members, supporters, and friends — who each play a special role in our community.

We celebrate the women who nurture, encourage, lead, listen, comfort, teach, support, and show up with love in both big and small ways.

We also celebrate the women who call Sunfield Home their home — each with her own personality, gifts, hopes, dreams, and unique light to share.

This Women’s Day, we say thank you to every woman who helps make Sunfield a place of dignity, belonging, joy, and care.

🎉 What a wonderful Sunfield Market Day! 🎉

Our hearts are full after an incredibly successful day filled with community spirit, laughter, dancing and generous support.

This year’s Market Day welcomed even more visitors, more stalls and an amazing variety of delicious food — from roosterkoek, pies and samosas to pizzas, cakes, cookies and sweet treats. Many of our food stalls and resident-made products completely sold out! 🙌

The residents loved sharing their hard work with everyone, and the ballet performance and spontaneous line dancing brought even more joy to the day. Our Sunfield shop was also bustling with visitors browsing books, clothing and pre-loved treasures.

A heartfelt thank you to every person who attended, purchased something, supported a stall, shared our posts or helped spread the word. It was especially wonderful to welcome so many new visitors to Sunfield.

We are already looking forward to making the Sunfield Market Day an annual community celebration!

Our much-loved Sunfield Winter Market is taking place on Saturday, 25 July, and we are getting excited for a wonderful day of community, connection, and local support.

We still have a limited number of vendor spots available, so if you would like to be part of the market, now is the time to book your space!

We welcome vendors offering crafts, food, baked goods, gifts, clothing, fresh produce, homemade items, and other market-friendly products.

💛 Care Begins with Knowing the Person 💛

At Sunfield Home, we know that caring for our residents can never rely on a single checklist — because every resident is different.

One person may communicate discomfort with words. Another may communicate through behaviour. One resident may enjoy a busy indoor activity, while another may feel more comfortable in a quieter space. Some residents may need significant support, while others are able to make many of their own health and lifestyle choices.

That is why person-centred care matters so deeply.

It means understanding:
🌿 How each resident usually communicates
🌿 What changes may indicate discomfort
🌿 Which routines provide reassurance
🌿 Their health conditions and medication
🌿 Their sensory and dietary needs
🌿 The activities they enjoy
🌿 The support that helps them participate with confidence

The better we know the person, the sooner we are likely to recognise when something has changed.
