Today is World Water Day — an annual United Nations (UN) observance that highlights the importance of universal accessibility to water and advocates for its sustainable management.

One of the Fisher Foundation’s first projects was the installation of a borehole at Izintambane School in the Mthekwini community of Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This project provides 440 children and their families with reliable access to clean water.

Access to water is NOT a privilege. It is a fundamental human right.

Last year, the Fisher Foundation supported the successful relocation of a cohesive family group of five elephants in the Eastern Cape from Asante Sana Game Reserve to Longhill Private Reserve. With no elephants previously on the reserve, this marked an important expansion of the species’ range in the province.

The next step was to strengthen the herd for long-term sustainability. Earlier this month, two elephant bulls—a mature dominant bull and a younger bull—were successfully captured and translocated from Northern KZN's Munywana Conservancy to Longhill. Their arrival completes the herd and enables natural breeding dynamics to take place.

This carefully planned 1,300km translocation was made possible through close collaboration between the Fisher Foundation, Wildlife Emergency Fund, Conservation Solutions, Munywana Conservancy, and Longhill Reserve.

A powerful example of conservation in action—protecting the future, one journey at a time. 🐘🌍

Today is World Pangolin Day — a moment to reflect on the fragile status of these extraordinary animals. Here in South Africa, the population of the Temminck’s pangolin continues to face serious threats. Their decline is driven not only by high demand in the illegal wildlife trade, but also by habitat loss and accidental electrocution from game fences. Alarmingly, populations are predicted to experience significant declines over the next three generations.
It is our shared responsibility to protect and conserve these precious animals.
The Fisher Foundation is committed to being part of the solution by supporting organisations involved in the rehabilitation and reintroduction of Temminck’s pangolins into the wild, and by educating communities surrounding our wildlife parks about the true value of these animals — as living, vital members of our ecosystems, not commodities for the illegal trade in scales and meat.

It is hard to believe that this adorable creature — and a vital part of our ecosystem — is still listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Fisher Foundation is proud to support conservation efforts through our involvement with the Kalahari Wildlife Project. By continuing to highlight this cause, we can raise awareness of the species’ vulnerability and encourage collective action to protect, preserve and grow its population in South Africa and beyond our borders.

The Heart of Man: It is astonishing how the misplaced belief that the rhino horn can deliver certain medicinal benefits has decimated the rhino populations in Africa. Demand for the horn, mainly from Vietnam and China has fuelled a lucrative black market where the horn can fetch prices higher than gold on a per/kg basis. Vulnerable communities living adjacent to protected wildlife areas are exploited by criminal syndicates to illegally poach these magnificent animals.
The horn is primarily composed of keratin and numerous studies have found no evidence that it has any curative properties for human ailments.
At The Fisher Foundation we are committed to being part of the solution by educating communities and raising awareness about the importance of conserving, not just the rhino, but all our precious wildlife.

2025 has been a big year for impact.

We expanded our footprint across Southern Africa to conserve, educate, and uplift.

Our work stretched from the Northern Cape to Gauteng and Limpopo, across to Mozambique, through Zululand, and into the Eastern Cape.

The Conservation Cup helped raise vital funds to support conservation partners and local communities.

A heartfelt thank you to our donors, partners, sports stars, and community leaders for walking this journey with us and helping fulfill our mission in 2025.

We are looking forward to expanding our footprint further in 2026.

The Hurried Flight of the Pangolin. What a unique and enchanting creature. The pangolin is the world’s most trafficked animal. It has now become a moral imperative to join the fight against then scourge of illegal poaching. The battle seems insurmountable, but with fervent collective agency we can make a difference.
We spent some time with the recently to support their great work and learn more about what they do. Check the link to find out more.
