One enormous challenge—and one very important reason for taking it on.

Langrug Community Centre board member Steven van Hoof is competing in the Ironman race in Mossel Bay on 22 November 2026, aiming to raise R200,000 for the Tomorrowland Music & Arts Centre in Langrug.

The Centre gives children and young people opportunities to learn music, dance, drama and art. The money Steven raises will help us provide the equipment they need to develop their talents and take part fully in these programmes.

After helping at our soup kitchen, the girls from St George’s, Edinburgh headed to the Franschhoek Market.

Flower of Scotland started… 🎶

…and somehow turned into an impromptu fundraiser for Langrug Community Centre!

R1,000 + US$100 raised for our soup kitchen. ❤️🙌

We didn’t ask them to do it. It wasn’t planned. They simply decided that after spending the morning with us, they wanted to do a little more.

And that is rather special.

A few more moments from a very special Saturday ❤️

We couldn’t resist sharing some of the photographs from our morning with the girls from St George’s, Edinburgh.

Behind all the singing and dancing you saw in our video, there was also a lot of work going on!

The girls rolled up their sleeves, put on our red aprons and joined our team serving meals and fruit to the children of Langrug.

For us, visits like this are about much more than an extra pair of hands at the soup kitchen. They are about bringing people together who might otherwise never meet, sharing experiences and discovering that communities thousands of kilometres apart can find plenty to smile about together.

Thank you, St George’s, for being part of our Saturday. We hope you enjoyed your time in Langrug as much as we enjoyed having you. ❤️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 From Edinburgh to Langrug! 🇿🇦

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming a fantastic group of girls from St George's School, Edinburgh, who are visiting South Africa as part of a hockey and netball tour.

They swapped the sports field for the soup kitchen for a few hours, rolling up their sleeves and helping us serve meals to the children of Langrug. ❤️

But they didn’t stop there…

Some of the girls took the opportunity to share a little Scottish spirit — and brought the traffic to a standstill with an impromptu performance of Jerusalema, followed by a very Scottish rendition of Flower of Scotland! 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇿🇦

South Africa and Scotland meeting in the middle of Langrug — through food, music, dance and plenty of laughter.

A huge thank you to the girls and staff from St George’s for spending part of their South African adventure with us. We hope you take home some very special memories of Langrug — we certainly enjoyed having you! 💛

From the soup kitchen to the dance floor! ❤️🥣🎨🥁💃

It was wonderful to welcome Claudia van Engelen and her daughter, Roos van der Meijden, from the Netherlands to the Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts Centre during their recent time in Langrug.

Claudia and Roos are no strangers to LCC. When they visit South Africa, both give their time volunteering at our soup kitchen, so it was particularly special to be able to introduce them to another part of what is happening in our community.

Claudia spent time at M&A seeing our learners at work — surrounded by the wonderful artwork that is rapidly filling our walls and watching our young people explore music and percussion.

And Roos didn’t remain an observer for very long! 😂

She brought another of her talents to M&A by leading a fantastic dance class. The photographs probably tell that story better than we can — lots of movement, lots of laughter and an enormous amount of energy!

What we particularly love about visits like this is the sharing of skills and experiences. M&A isn’t only about what happens in a scheduled lesson. It’s also about giving our young people opportunities to meet people, experience something different and discover new things they might love.

Thank you, Claudia and Roos, not only for spending time at M&A, but for continuing to give your time so generously to LCC whenever you are in South Africa.

And Roos… we suspect the learners will be expecting another dance class next time! 💃❤️

A huge thank you to our wonderful guest teacher, Roos van der Meijden, from the Netherlands, for bringing so much energy, enthusiasm and joy to the Tomorrowland Music & Arts Centre with a fantastic dance class! 💙

Many of you will recognise Roos from her time volunteering at the Langrug Community Centre Soup Kitchen, so it was such a pleasure to see another side of her talents as she inspired our learners through dance.

The smiles on everyone’s faces say it all. There was laughter, movement, confidence and pure happiness throughout the session, reminding us of the incredible impact that volunteers from around the world can have on our community.

Thank you, Roos, for sharing your passion and your time with us. We loved having you, and we hope this won’t be the last time.

✨ Three months of music, art and impact! ✨

In just its first three months, the Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School, in partnership with the Langrug Community Centre, has already achieved something truly special:

👩‍🏫 8 local community members employed across teaching and administration
🌟 320 children welcomed
🎨 4 types of FREE after-school classes:
💃 Traditional dance
🎨 Visual arts
🎵 Music
🎸 Instrument lessons

At the same time, the Langrug Community Centre has reached another incredible milestone: 55,000 meals served since it first opened its doors. ❤️

As we continue to grow our support for the community, we are incredibly grateful to every partner, donor, teacher, staff member and volunteer who helps make this possible.

Together, we look forward to welcoming even more children and expanding these inspiring programmes for the Langrug and Groendal communities.

263 scarves. 263 warm smiles. ❤️🧣

Today at the Langrug Community Centre soup kitchen, something truly special happened.

As part of their Mandela Day project, the Senior Prep students of Bridge House School and their families knitted scarves and beanies with love for the children of Langrug.

Today, 263 handmade scarves were wrapped around little shoulders alongside a warm meal and an orange. As the winter cold continues, these gifts will provide more than warmth—they remind every child that there are people who care deeply about them.

To every Senior Prep student, every family member who picked up knitting needles, and the staff who supported this wonderful initiative—thank you. Your kindness has travelled from your homes into ours, one stitch at a time.

And thank you, as always, to our incredible volunteers who made today’s soup kitchen possible.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated perishable food items at the Franschhoek Village Market collection in support of the Langrug Community Centre Feeding Scheme as part of the Mandela Day celebrations.

Every donation, big or small, helps us put nutritious meals into the hands of children and vulnerable adults in our community.
