URGENT NOTICE

Our EMR kennels will be closed for the next 14 days due to a highly contagious dog that was placed there yesterday and has Distemper.

As most of you know, this disease is extremely contagious and can be deadly. We cannot risk exposing the shelter or any dogs that may be placed there in the coming days.

We only recently experienced an outbreak at the beginning of the year, which resulted in the Orkney & Klerksdorp Animal Shelter being closed for 72 days. Because of this, we believe the public will understand why we cannot take any chances with the health and safety of the dogs in our care.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused, but this situation is unfortunately beyond our control.

We would like to acknowledge that we are aware of the situation involving the 19 cats that urgently need homes due to unfortunate circumstances. Today alone, we have had six people contact us regarding these cats and asking if we can assist.

As we have explained to each person who has reached out, we are simply not in a position to take in such a large number of cats at this time. It is never easy saying no when animals need help, but we have to be realistic about our limitations. We do not have the space or capacity to responsibly accommodate 19 additional cats while still ensuring the wellbeing and care of the animals already in our care.

We understand everyone's concern and appreciate that people are trying to help these cats find safety and suitable homes.

We would also like to be honest about the reality we are facing. Over the past two to three weeks, we have received very little financial support. Rescues and animal welfare efforts cannot continue on compassion alone - food, medical care and daily needs all come with ongoing costs. We continue to do everything we can for the animals depending on us, but we cannot keep going without support.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us continue making a difference.

Unwanted 💔

Unfortunately the owner has passed away, and we have no proper history or even a name for this little Min Pin ouma. It did not work out with the people who tried to help her and she now finds herself in a shelter.

We are urgently looking for a long-term / end-of-life foster home for her.

At her age (estimated 8 - 10 years), she is unfortunately too old for sterilisation, and her health is not the best. We do not want to risk putting her through sedation and an operation as it might be too much for her old body.

She needs a very secure foster home where all resident animals are sterilised, or where there are only female dogs.

It breaks our hearts to see her unwanted in a shelter, especially during this cold.

Ideally, we are looking for someone patient and understanding, with experience of the breed or senior dogs.

💔 Rescue Update – Bully 💔

It is with very heavy hearts that we share this update on Bully.

Over the last few days we monitored him closely and hoped that with care and treatment we would begin to see improvement. Unfortunately, after another veterinary assessment, we discovered that his injuries and wounds were far more extensive than initially believed.

Bully had reached the point where he was suffering and was unable to eat or drink. After discussing his condition with the veterinarian, the heartbreaking decision was made to humanely let him go and spare him further pain and suffering.

As a rescue, these are the decisions that break us. We fight for every animal that comes through our doors, and we always hope for a different outcome. But our responsibility is also to ensure that we do not allow an animal to continue suffering when there is no reasonable chance of recovery.

Bully deserved better than the circumstances that brought him to us. Although his time with us was short, he knew warmth, care, gentle hands, and compassion.

**OWNER URGENTLY NEEDED**

We are looking for the owner of a brindle Bull Terrier.

We received a call from Orkney regarding a dog that appeared to be dying. Our team responded immediately and found this Bull Terrier severely injured after being attacked by other dogs and left without assistance.

If this is your dog, or if you know who the owner may be, please contact us as soon as possible.

Every emergency call-out comes at a cost. From fuel and vehicle maintenance to veterinary treatment, these expenses add up quickly. We are also currently trying to raise funds to replace the damaged windows on our response vehicle so that we can continue helping animals in need.

Meet Faith 🤍

Faith has met a few potential adopters, and every time we get excited and hopeful... but then the phone never rings.

She keeps trying her very best.

Faith is a beautiful young girl with a sweet soul. She's medium-sized, on the smaller side, and absolutely stunning. While she can be a little shy when meeting new people, her lovely personality shines through once she feels comfortable and safe.

She has already met children and did so good! Faith is still learning about the world around her and building her confidence. Shelter life is loud, busy, and overwhelming, and it's hard for a gentle girl like Faith to truly show everyone how special she is.

What she needs is her own person. Someone patient and kind who will show her what love, security, and belonging feel like.

We know that once Faith has a chance to settle into a home, she's going to make someone very happy. 🥺💕
