Rotary Club Klerksdorp

Rotary Club Klerksdorp We're Friends, Leaders, and Problem-solvers. We unite and take action within our community. What is Rotary? It forms part of RI District 9370. Friendship.

The Rotary Club of Klerksdorp serves the community of Klerksdorp in the North West province of South Africa. Rotary is a service organization that was started in 1905 with the formation of the Rotary Club of Chicago. Today there are more than 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide that are members of over 32 000 Rotary clubs. The Rotary clubs belong to a global association, Rotary International. Rotarian

s form a global network of business, professional, and community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities and the world. Strong fellowship among Rotarians and meaningful community and international service projects characterize Rotary worldwide. The Rotary Club of Klerksdorp was founded in November 1953. The Rotarians of Klerksdorp meet every week (excluding the last week of the month) at Rota Park Hall, du Toit Street, Freemanville on a Friday from 13h00 to 14h00. Professional Networking. A founding principle of Rotary was to meet periodically to enjoy camaraderie and enlarge one’s circle of business and professional acquaintances. As the oldest service club in the world, Rotary Club of Klerksdorp members represent a cross-section of the community’s owners, executives, managers, political leaders, and professionals – people who make decisions and influence policy. Service Opportunities. Club members have many opportunities for humanitarian service, both locally and internationally. Service programs address such concerns as health care, hunger, poverty, illiteracy, and the environment. Rotarians experience the fulfillment that comes from giving back to the community. International Awareness. With Rotary clubs in over 160 countries, Rotarians gain an understanding of humanitarian issues through international service projects and exchange programs. One of Rotary’s highest objectives is to build goodwill and peace throughout the world. Rotary was founded on fellowship, an ideal that remains a major attraction of membership today. Club members enjoy the camaraderie with like-minded professionals, and club projects offer additional opportunities to develop enduring friendships. Rotary club members who travel have friendly contacts in almost every city in the world. Good Citizenship. Weekly programs keep members informed about what is taking place in the community, nation, and world and motivated them to make a difference. Family Foundations. Rotary sponsors some of the world’s largest youth exchange, educational exchange, and scholarship programs. Rotary clubs provide innovative training opportunities and mentoring for young leaders and involve family members in a wide range of social and service activities. Entertainment. Social activities give Rotarians a chance to let loose and have fun. Every Rotary club and district hosts party and activities that offer diversions from today’s demanding professional and personal schedules. Conferences, conventions, assemblies, and social events provide entertainment as well as Rotary information, education, and service. Ethical Environment. Encouraging high ethical standards in one’s profession and respect for all worthy vocations has been a hallmark of Rotary from its earliest days. In their business and professional lives, Rotarians abide by The Four-Way Test:
Of the things we think, say, or do:
1) Is it the TRUTH?
2) Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3) Will it BUILD GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Leadership Development. Rotary is an organization of successful professionals. Team building, fundraising, public speaking, planning, organization, and communication are just a sampling of the leadership skills that club members can exercise and enhance. Being a Rotary leader provides further experience in learning how to motivate, inspire, and guide others. Diversity in Membership. Rotary’s classification system ensures that a club’s membership represents a variety of the community’s professional men and women, including leaders in business, industry, the arts, government, sports, the military, and religion. Rotary clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

There are partnerships that truly make a difference — and our journey with Klerksdorp Care Centre (KCC) is one of them.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting Michelle at our Rotary lunch meeting, where we were able to share a small token of appreciation — Easter eggs for the amazing individuals they serve through their soup kitchen.

KCC’s impact in our community is nothing short of inspiring:
Every Tuesday, they run a soup kitchen (serving the elderly and disabled members of the community), there are approximately 9 stops, starting in Elandsheuwel then they work through Randlespark, Freemanville and Kanana.

Their work is powered by dedication, compassion, and volunteers.

Our partnership with KCC has grown over time, and we’re proud to support their mission — from contributing towards a cold room to help store fresh produce, to providing vegetables on a weekly basis.

Michelle and her team remind us what “Service Above Self” truly means. It’s not just about feeding people — it’s about dignity, care, and showing up consistently for those who need it most.

Thank you for allowing us to walk this journey with you. Together, we continue to make a meaningful difference. Klerksdorp Community Centre 🙌

This is an interesting read. As times change, we need to adapt and grow. We need to fully immerse ourselves in the new digital era, but most importantly, we need to remember the Rotary spirit — because while tools and technologies evolve, our purpose remains timeless: to serve with integrity, build meaningful connections, and create a lasting impact in our communities and beyond.

As we celebrate another Rotary anniversary, I often wonder what Paul Harris would make of Rotary today. Would he smile proudly? Or stare in mild confusion while asking someone to explain what a “hashtag” is? When he gathered a few friends together on 23 February 1905, I doubt he imagined that li...

TREE OF JOY 2025 | SPREADING CHRISTMAS CHEER

Today we had the privilege of delivering Christmas cookies to various old-age homes and frail care facilities in Klerksdorp and Stilfontein — a small gesture to bring some festive cheer.

Our annual Tree of Joy project is always one of the most rewarding moments of the year. Connecting with our elders, sharing kindness, and reminding them that they are loved and remembered is truly what the festive season is all about.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, baked, packed and delivered. Together, we continue to make our community a brighter place.

Service Above Self — today and always.

Community Empowerment in Action!

What a joyful day at our Rotary Community Centre in Jouberton!
A fresh delivery of material has arrived for our Sewing Skills Development Project — and as you can see from the smiles, excitement is an understatement!

This project uplifts local women by teaching valuable sewing skills, enabling them to create beautiful garments and earn an income. It’s all about upskilling, dignity, creativity, and opening doors to new opportunities.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who donates, supports, and believes in the power of community development. Together, we’re stitching hope, skills, and independence — one garment at a time.

Connections Across Continents!

Julian is safe in Germany!
Julian is representing our club in the short-term Exchange Program. He had a special reunion — meeting up with Theo, his host, who spent a few weeks with us here in South Africa earlier this year.

It’s moments like these that remind us how powerful Rotary Youth Exchange truly is:
Building friendships that span the globe
Sharing cultures, ideas, and experiences
Strengthening international understanding

We’re so proud of him for representing our club abroad, and thrilled to see these lasting connections flourish.

Safe travels, Julian — we can’t wait to hear more about your adventure! 🇿🇦🇩🇪

*Spreading Christmas Joy at Klerksdorp Hospital*

Our annual Christmas party for the Cerebral Palsy children at Klerksdorp Hospital was filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments!

Santa made a special appearance (he truly gets younger every year!), and the children enjoyed games, including a fun round of musical chairs. Gifts were handed out with big smiles, and families spent the morning enjoying delicious food and refreshments together.

A heartfelt thank-you to the parents, caregivers, volunteers, and our Rotary family for creating such a warm and joyful celebration. These moments of connection and kindness are what the festive season is all about.

Creating Hope in the World.

Supporting Klerksdorp Community Centre

Today we delivered a fresh supply of vegetables along with CFAM (fortified porridge) to the Klerksdorp Community Centre. These essentials will help provide nutritious meals to the many families who rely on the centre’s support.

A huge thank-you to everyone who makes these deliveries possible — your dedication ensures that we can continue uplifting our community, one meal at a time.

Together, we’re creating real change.
