Community Cohesion

Community Cohesion Specialists in providing therapeutic and practical, Rights based assistance to victims of violence and crime.

Community Cohesion is an NGO that provides direct services to victims of violence and crime. We are Victim Empowerment Specialists with a focus on domestic and sexual violence, working with both victims and perpetrators. In our therapeutic sessions we address current, past and historical trauma for primary and secondary victims of violence. We have a multidisciplinary approach and also provide pr

actical assistance with the SAPS, NPA, with obtaining Protection Orders, working out safety plans, securing placement in places of safety or protection; whatever our client needs to move from victim to empowered individual. We have been acknowledged by National government as the top direct services VEP organisation in the Western Cape where we render our services.

When a Conference is not a talk shop but a call to Acknowledging Realities and moving from Awareness to Action.

Powerful, engaging, deeply emotional and humanistic conversations resulted in greater awareness about the realities men are facing and how to confront these challenges without doing harm to themselves, their families, their communities and our country.

These last 2 days were an acknowledgement of the intrinsic humanity and dignity in everyone.

What an honour as Community Cohesion to create this space with our partners Ilitha Labantu ,The Character Company and the Western Cape Provincial DSD, VEP Directorate.

Thank you to everyone from civil society and a multitude of government departments who chose to make time for themselves and others.

Today we hosted the last self empowerment and safety session for this year. We were joined by the new team of Metro Police posted to Hout Bay.

This ongoing partnership between Community Cohesion and the Hout Bay SAPS and CPF, saw us hosting interactive sessions on personal, digital, emotional and emergency safety.

Today we had the privilege of learning from Ralph, an international medical emergency professional who volunteers with Hout Bay Volunteer Emergency Medical Service - HBEMS - when he is here, in the bay. Such valuable, life saving knowledge was shared today and in all the other sessions.

Thank you to everyone who gave of their time to teach these much needed empowerment tools and to our community members who attend the sessions and share the knowledge.

This is real empowerment.

If you would like to join the sessions in 2026, please whatsapp our Hout Bay Office on 0616836943 with your name and 'safety sessions' in your message.

What an energising, positive, real day of collaboration we had yesterday. With our partners, Ilitha Labantu, we hosted 40 other NGO and CBO stakeholders, all working in the fields of violence prevention and intervention. We WORKED, we mapped, we challenged, we shared.

We also laughed and made new friends.

Thank you, everyone who put in the hard work yesterday. This is the start. Onwards, always.

This campaign aims to prioritize the safety of women and girls, raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV), and promote equal access to justice and protection for all. The event will bring together key stakeholders, including SAPS, the Department of Social Development, Home Affairs, Law Enforcement, civil society organizations, legal service providers, and community leaders, to engage the community on GBV prevention, survivor rights, and access to legal and psychosocial support services.
