Unitarian Universalist Church of Yakima A welcoming church of open-minded compassionate people of all ages.

We celebrate life, affirm the worth and dignity of all people, seek wisdom, and work for justice in the Yakima Valley. Celebrating liberal religion since 1956, we are a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association. We offer Family Worship and Lifespan Religious Education programs every Sunday, in addition to other programs of fellowship, spiritual development, and social justice. We are a certified Welcoming Congregation that embraces people of any age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, ability, language, or cultural background.

Join us this Sunday for our all-ages service celebrating Halloween, making connections and sharing memories. Remember - Costumes are appropriate for adults and children. (There will be time for sharing!) We will also share treats and create a tree of memory and love together.

As UUs, we share a rich heritage including Unitarian traditions of freedom, reason and tolerance, and Universalist emphasis on faith, hope and love. This Sunday's service, led by Susan Kaphammer, reminds us of the struggles and courage that is our heritage, a heritage that we share with newer members who join us in choosing this path for living.

This Sunday, Sean Tait will discuss recent scientific discoveries about the nature of trees, including their amazing abilities to sense their world, communicate with each other, make decisions, learn and even remember. He will speak as an arborist about things he has learned in the classroom, as well as lessons he has learned (mostly from his own mistakes) over the last 30 years of practicing tree care. Come with an open mind and be prepared to have it blown!

This Sunday we will look at three myths associated with money: Scarcity, More and Lack. Partially based on the book by Lynne Twist, The Soul of Money, along with UU’s tradition of Sharing the Plate, this service will hopefully bring some clarity to our choices in how we share our money.

On this day we will also hear from some members about local non-profits that are nominated for this coming year’s Share the Plate recipient. As service concludes, we will vote on those nominations.

What does it mean to truly make room for one another? This Sunday, September 27th, we’ll explore the UU value of Pluralism through a very current pop culture moment involving Macklemore, Palestine, and the complicated space between speaking our conscience and making room for the consciences of others.

Come join us as we consider what it means to live with difference, disagreement, and conviction without losing our sense of connection to one another.

Each week we recite our healthy relations covenant. This includes the promise to celebrate each others’ spiritual growth. What does that mean? What does “spiritual” mean? How does it apply to UUs? Join us as congregational member Andrew Whitmont addresses these and other related questions.

This Sunday, our UU community will be holding our annual Water Communion, a tradition with Unitarian Universalists since the 1980s. We celebrate coming together with our various lives and beliefs to form this precious community. Those who wish may bring a small amount of water from a place special to them to combine in a symbol of this coming together. Plan to join us for this first service of our new church year, for all ages, led by Susan Kaphammer.

A simple smile, a helping hand, or a gentle word can make a difference in someone's day and even change their life. How a simple act may have a powerful impact. Join us this Sunday for coffee and conversation on this topic.

Unless you’re new to UUism, you probably know about our national organization, the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). But, did you know that there are other organizations related to UUs not officially part of the UUA? This Coffee & Conversation will introduce you to the many UU-related national organizations that exist and that you might have an interest in. There are two official affiliated groups, five theological affinity groups, and an abundance of covenanted communities and other groups related to our human interests. We’ll explore the possibilities.

We hear a lot about privilege. What does it mean? Why does it matter? As UUs, what are we called upon to do about our privilege (or lack thereof)? With the help of some guided questions Bill Jacobs will facilitate this Coffee & Conversation session. Come and listen deeply, or share your thoughts, or both.
