❤️ A little support can make a big difference.💙
The Fresh Start Collaborative at United Way of Central Washington was grateful for the opportunity to provide hygiene packs, period kits, and school supplies to Ma’s Closet, supporting children and families in the Mount Adams School District impacted by this summer’s devastating fires.
When a disaster turns life upside down, the needs extend far beyond rebuilding homes. Everyday essentials like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, deodorant, menstrual products, and school supplies can become difficult to access, especially when families are displaced or working to replace what they’ve lost.
Hygiene and period kits are about more than basic necessities. They help protect health, restore a sense of normalcy, and preserve dignity during an incredibly difficult time. For students, having clean supplies and the products they need can mean one less worry as they return to, and attempt to focus on, school. For families, having these essentials taken care of frees up limited resources, time, and energy to focus on what matters most: caring for one another and rebuilding their lives.
Disaster relief doesn't end when the flames are out or the headlines fade. Recovery is a long road, and the need for support can continue for weeks, months, or even years after an emergency. The after-care matters just as much as the immediate response. It's about showing up long after the initial crisis, helping families navigate the challenges that remain, and ensuring our treasured neighbors have the resources and support they need to regain stability, sustain that progress, and build toward a stronger future. 🧡
We are thankful to Ma’s Closet for the work they do to support White Swan families and proud that the Fresh Start Collaborative could play a small part in helping our neighbors continue moving forward.
Because recovery is about more than rebuilding what was lost. It's about standing alongside one another for as long as it takes to find solid ground again. 💛
