NOTICE OF ELECTIONS

In accordance with the By-Laws of the Fisher/Nightingale Houses, Inc., the Executive Board is holding elections in November 2026 for positions that start a two-year term on January 1st, 2027. Positions open this year include the President, Secretary, 2nd Trustee-at-Large, 4th Trustee-at-Large, and 6th Trustee-at-Large. Anyone interested in running for any of these positions should contact the Fisher/Nightingale Houses, Inc. Vice President, Larry Johnson at [email protected] no later than October 31st, 2026 (resumes required). Elections will be finalized by November 23rd, 2026.

The Fisher/Nightingale Houses, Inc. is a private non-profit, 501(c)3 organization. Our mission is to raise funds to support compassionate care lodging for active military and veteran patients and their families receiving critical medical treatment.

Fisher Houses exists to keep military and veteran families close during medical crises. Most of the time, that means being close for recovery. Other times, it means being close for goodbye.

We don't talk about that side of our mission often, but it's real, and it matters. On this Grief Awareness Day, we honor every family who has grieved inside a Fisher House.

Because a family's love is good medicine.

What is Fisher House?

We are a nonprofit organization that provides a home away from home for military and veteran families while their loved ones receive care at a VA or military medical center. With over 100 homes across the U.S. and overseas, these comfort homes are built near major hospitals and offer no-cost lodging to families, allowing them to stay close during medical crises without the added financial burden of hotel and travel costs.

Since 1990, Fisher Houses have served more than 570,000 families, saving them over $690 million in out-of-pocket expenses. Each Fisher House is fully furnished, with private bedrooms and shared kitchens, laundry facilities, and living rooms, creating a sense of community and support during some of life’s most difficult moments.

It’s more than just a place to stay. It’s a place of healing, hope, and togetherness.

What a great time participating in the Veterans Retirees event today at Wright Patterson Air Force Base! Very grateful to share about the resource of The Fisher Houses-compassionate care facilities built for our military men and women during times of medical need.

One additional, but very important post from The Voices of America Music Festival. This year, the organizers graciously invited us to produce a video about our work. This was run on a loop throughout the four days between shows on their multiple LED screens. I attempted to capture it, but it doesn’t truly do it justice. Thank you, Nikki Camacho Speck, for your constant support of our mission including editing the video you produced for our latest Compassionate Care Heals gala so it could be used here. There really is no way to measure the ripple effect of having this positive exposure. We are grateful.

We once again owe a debt of gratitude to Brian Kitzmiller, and all the organizers of The Voices of America Music Festival for including us in their “Charity Row” here in West Chester. This is a four-day music festival that allows us to interact with an estimated 150,000 people over the long weekend. People have stopped by to share heart-felt stories of their experiences with a Fisher House. Others have come by and learned about this amazing resource for the first time. I would be remiss to forget to thank Evan Luse, builder of the tent, organizer of the giveaways and overall paparazzi!

At the end of the day we are all working together to support our military men and women during times of medical need. What an amazing evening working to support the Michigan Fisher House during their gala last week! It was an inspirational evening reminding all of us why we do what we do every single day.

Today is National Hire a Veteran Day, and it's a cause close to our hearts.

We know that supporting veterans and military families doesn't stop at the hospital door. It extends to every part of life, including the moment a veteran transitions out of uniform and into the civilian workforce.

Every year, approximately 200,000 service members leave the military and begin a new chapter. . Finding meaningful employment is one of the biggest hurdles they face.
