Hello friends of the Arc of GPW!

We are throwing our summer dance on Saturday, June 13th, to celebrate Juneteenth - Family Reunion Cookout Style - and we could really use some help to pull it off.

Normally, we have a lot of volunteers, but for whatever reason, we only have two people signed up to help out this time around, and it will be a BIG lift for us to get it done and done well.

If you're interested in helping us out, we would be eternally grateful! There might even been an oversized Family Reunion t-shirt in it for you! And we will for sure feed you :).

The event is being held at Patriot HS in Nokesville, and set up begins at 3pm. Reach out to Emily ([email protected]) if you're able to lend a hand.

Yesterday was a deeply meaningful moment for The Arc of Greater Prince William. We were honored to receive a proclamation from the Prince William Board of County Supervisors recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month, in loving memory of our late Executive Director, Karen L. Smith.

Karen’s passion, leadership, and unwavering dedication continue to inspire our work every day. This recognition is not only a tribute to her legacy, but also a reminder of our ongoing commitment to acceptance, inclusion, and advocacy for individuals with autism and their families. 💙

🍀 Happy St. Patrick’s Day from The Arc! 🍀

Today, we’re not only celebrating the luck of the Irish—we’re also celebrating the incredible life, legacy, and decades of joyful memories shared by someone very special to our community: Karen Smith.

This video takes us back to one of Karen’s favorite traditions—our St. Patrick’s Day Dance-A-Thon. Karen was always all in when it came to recreation program shenanigans, bringing energy, laughter, and heart to every moment.

Her spirit continues to inspire us, and today we honor the joy she spread and the many lives she touched.

Here’s to Karen, and to celebrating together—just the way she loved. 💚

Today we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Executive Director, Karen Smith. 💛

For 58 years, Karen dedicated her life to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and strengthening our community. Her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment helped shape The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT into the organization it is today.

Karen’s vision opened doors for countless individuals and families—from expanding community services to advocating for meaningful inclusion and opportunity. Her legacy will continue to live on in the lives she touched, the programs she helped build, and the community she helped grow.

We are deeply grateful for the time we had with Karen and the extraordinary impact she made. As we mourn this loss, we also celebrate a life devoted to service, purpose, and compassion.

Please keep Karen’s family, friends, and all who loved and worked with her in your thoughts during this difficult time.
