Thanks to a federal judge's order, the Arkansas legislature's attempts to strangle citizen-led initiatives in the state have failed.

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked enforcement of several Arkansas laws related to the ballot measure process.

For the benefit of government officials, election officials, and Alaskan residents, it's time to clarify the Citizen Only Voting requirement in Alaska.

Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom certifies Ballot Initiative 25USCV, reaffirming that only U.S. citizens may vote in Alaska. Measure now moves to signature-gathering stage.

Mississippi would certainly benefit from restoring the ballot initiative process, but you can't have it both ways, Mr. Speaker. When elected representatives fail to act in their constituents' best interests, those constituents should have the power to determine any choice.

Missouri is next in the line of state legislatures this year to attempt to suffocate the initiative process. It's crucial for citizens to be able to initiate ballot measures when their legislature fails to represent them. It's both suspect and ludicrous that a state legislature would decide to put on the ballot a law that would minimize citizens' ability to self-govern.

Respect Missouri Voters is collecting signatures for a constitutional amendment to protect the citizen petition process from new restrictions.

"The will of the people is overrated." — Nebraska state Senator Tony Sorrentino

So far in 2025, the Fairness Project has tracked 148 state legislative bills that were or are aimed at consolidating power for lawmakers and take it away from voters. The yearly average from 2000 to 2023 was 16.

Stripping voters' initiative rights is unconscionable and must be stopped; instead they have radically accelerated.

The Fairness Project says lawmakers across 15 states have filed 148 bills this year designed to make citizen-led ballot initiatives more difficult to pass.

“Our founders believed that smaller congressional districts would lead to a better relationship between citizens and their government. Gerrymandering undermines this idea by splitting neighbors from each other or packing them in districts with others from the same party to secure a seat for the political party in control.”
