🪶🍂As the last warm days of summer begin to fade, we ask the community to think about our bird friends who are starting to migrate through Virginia. There are many ways to give them the best chance of survival. And, these great tips don't stop at home. If you work in a building that has large windows, encourage management to make some easy (and energy efficient) changes to help with safe migration. Win-win for all!

Here's how you can help:
🐦Reduce indoor lights and close blinds at night
🐦Use motion detecting lighting outside
🐦Use decals or deterrents on windows to prevent bird strikes
🐦Report injured birds to wildlife experts
🐦Encourage your workplace to adopt these measures

Let's all do our part to ensure a successful migration!

Payment: Venmo, PayPal, cash or check made payable to the Prince William SPCA. No pre-registration needed.

🌊All handlers must be 18+. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
🌊No humans in pool
🌊Friendly dogs only; all need to be comfortable around other dogs
🌊Please clean up after your dogs
🌊Guests do not need to live in community to attend
🌊All dogs need current county license and proof of rabies vaccination (paper or electronic on device is fine)

Prince William County Government, Virginia is moving forward with additional support for community cat spay and neuter surgeries.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors has greenlit a directive known as the “Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release" program, facilitating third-party involvement in the spay and neutering process for the county’s feral cat population in tandem with the Animal Services Center.

🐾Safety First! As you prepare for the 4th of July weekend, please remember to keep the safety of your pets (and our wildlife neighbors) in mind.

- 💥👀Make sure your microchips are up to date. Fireworks cause fear and confusion for even the mildest mannered pets. Best to leave Fido at home where he is safe rather than taking him to the celebration.
- 🔥💧Heat Advisories. This weekend, we will see record-setting temps. Pets who go outdoors should have this time limited with constant access to water. Also protect those paws when walking on concrete or asphalt. Find grass or invest in paw covers, if you can. No tethering. No pets in hot cars--ever!!!!
- 🐢🐇Don't forget our wildlife friends. While we never recommend feeding them, we do encourage watering stations. Keep them clean, filled, and with ramps for smaller friends to exit and enter.

The amazing Prince William SPCA of Prince William County, VA is spreading compassion in a massive way! For the 19th consecutive year, they are stepping up to bring Kind News magazine to classrooms all over their area for the upcoming school year.

Because of their incredible dedication to encouraging empathy and responsibility toward animals, PWSPCA will reach over 11,000 children with the magazine this year. Wow!

Call to Action Alert: Community Cat & TNR Supporters

Last year, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors authorized $48,000 for fiscal year 2026 for community cat trap, neuter, and release (TNR). The county’s budget year ends June 30, 2026, and those funds are at risk of being lost. The PWC Animal Services Center was allocated these funds, but none have been used due to an issue with the HVAC system. As it stands now, the TNR money will not roll over to FY 2027, which starts July 1, 2026.

Those funds will be lost if we do not act. Please tell the County Executive and the Board of County Supervisors that the community wants the already budgeted funds rolled over and used for the next coming year, preferably in July to address this crisis. Those funds need to be used for TNR by the PWC Animal Services or another program immediately as the need is great.

What needs done? Call your Supervisor and email ALL of the BOCS today asking that funding for TNR roll over to next year’s budget.

The request should stress that the FY2026 $48,000 funds should be **rolled over** to the funds allocated for 2027. They should be in addition to what is budgeted for 2027, not be lost because of inactivity in 2026.
