Mark your calendars! We are excited to announce that Pet Photos with Santa Noel will be held on Sunday, December 6 from 2-4:30 PM at Water's End Brewery. Wear your holiday best and join us for this amazing annual event. No cost, but donations are appreciated. One day only, so you won't want to miss it!

📚 📕 Special thanks goes out to Mr. Sample and Ms. Machovec at Westridge Elementary School in Lake Ridge. When the Little Free Library we host at the school was showing signs of wear and tear, they volunteered to make repairs. It is now back and "open for business."

On this very rainy Sunday, we hope you take some time to curl up with your furry family members and start reading a new book or rediscovering an old favorite. Once you're done, consider donating the book to one of our 21 libraries throughout the Prince William County region. Link to locations in the comments.

Celebrating National Animal Safety Month! No matter the age, everyone can play a part in keeping pets and wildlife safe.

October is National Animal Safety and Protection Month, and we are throwing it back to our November/December 2023 issue of Kind News to celebrate a true safety hero!

In that issue, we featured Humane Hero Natalie Korzuch, a high school senior, Girl Scouts Gold Award recipient, and board member at the Prince William SPCA in Virginia, who bring Kind News to thousands of children in their area each school year. When Natalie noticed her cat, Roary, nibbling on flowers in her room, she knew lilies were toxic to pets and stepped up to protect other animals in her community.

Natalie partnered with veterinarians, experts at the Wildlife Center of Virginia, and her local Boys & Girls Clubs of America to teach young kids how to keep pets and wildlife safe. She created an animal safety scavenger hunt, led fun crafts, shared digital resources with local schools, and earned the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award for her dedicated work! 🏆

"The kids were hugging me," Natalie said. "I knew I helped them learn. And they would go tell their friends on the playground and teachers and parents. It's nice to know I made a difference."

Natalie showed us that educating others on pet and wildlife safety creates a ripple effect of kindness that protects animals everywhere! 💛

🪶🍂As the last warm days of summer begin to fade, we ask the community to think about our bird friends who are starting to migrate through Virginia. There are many ways to give them the best chance of survival. And, these great tips don't stop at home. If you work in a building that has large windows, encourage management to make some easy (and energy efficient) changes to help with safe migration. Win-win for all!

Here's how you can help:
🐦Reduce indoor lights and close blinds at night
🐦Use motion detecting lighting outside
🐦Use decals or deterrents on windows to prevent bird strikes
🐦Report injured birds to wildlife experts
🐦Encourage your workplace to adopt these measures

Let's all do our part to ensure a successful migration!
