Day 4 of ALP focused on Agriculture & Entrepreneurship! Students spent the day exploring how local businesses and agricultural operations grow, adapt, and contribute to the strength of our regional economy.
The day began with Andy Gyurisin of the Laurel Ridge Small Business Development Center, who shared valuable insights on entrepreneurship and the skills needed to turn ideas into successful businesses.
At Weber’s Nursery & Garden Center, Allie, Retail Manager, provided a behind-the-scenes look at how a family-owned business has evolved over generations while continuing to support customers, employees, and others throughout the industry.
Students then visited West Oaks Farm Market & Event Center, where Mary Snapp shared the history of the farm and its growth into a popular market and event destination. During lunch, sponsored by Horizon Farm Credit, students learned how financing and crop insurance help agricultural businesses invest in their operations and manage risk.
The day concluded at Gore's Meats, where Kyleigh Gore guided students through the farm, processing facility, and retail operation. Participants gained a firsthand understanding of how food safely moves from farm to table and explored the many careers involved in agriculture, food production, logistics, and retail.
Thank you to our hosts and presenters for showcasing the innovation, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit that help drive our region forward!
A special thank you to Horizon Farm Credit for sponsoring lunch and helping make this valuable learning experience possible for our students.
