Last Friday was a fantastic day of learning and exploration as the Community Leadership Program Class of 2027 spent Session 2 discovering the significant role agriculture plays in our region’s economic development, tourism, and overall vitality!
From seeing apples packed for school lunches to learning about the care and dedication behind producing quality apple butter, participants gained a firsthand look at the innovation, tradition, and diversification shaping local agriculture.
The class visited Shawnee Canning Company Inc./Whitacre Family Farm, Timber Ridge Fruit Farm, and Three Wives Distillery, along with hearing from local agricultural leaders during an insightful panel discussion. A special thank you to Chamber Board Member Scott Johnson for providing an informative tour of Shawnee Canning Company Inc./Whitacre Family Farm and sharing his knowledge and firsthand experience with the class!
Throughout the day, participants heard directly from producers and processors about the opportunities, challenges, and realities of agricultural life, gaining a deeper appreciation for the people and businesses that help our region thrive.
