🏠 A Fresh Start Begins with a Safe Place to Call Home

Everyone deserves the opportunity to rebuild, regain stability, and move forward with dignity. Jones Second Chance Housing provides structured independent housing for adult men who are ready to take the next step toward a more stable future.

📍 Located in Wilmington, Delaware

Our furnished private and shared rooms include utilities, Wi-Fi, washer and dryer access, and a supportive, drug- and alcohol-free living environment—with housing costs as low as $30 per day.

Applicants must have verifiable income through employment, SSI, SSDI, VA benefits, an approved sponsor, or another documented source.

Whether you need housing for yourself or you’re a case manager helping someone prepare for a second chance, we encourage you to learn more.

Our housing programs are designed for adults who are able to live independently and maintain their monthly housing responsibilities.

WHAT DOES “CONFIRMED INCOME” MEAN? 💰🏠

You may see housing programs state that applicants must have confirmed or verifiable income — but what does that actually mean?

Depending on the individual housing program, qualifying income may include:

💼 Employment income
♿ SSI or SSDI
🎖️ VA benefits
💵 Retirement or other recurring benefits
🤝 Approved third-party or agency payments

Income requirements aren’t meant to create another barrier.

For independent housing programs where residents are responsible for monthly housing costs, verifying income helps determine whether the housing arrangement is financially sustainable before someone moves in.

It is also important to remember that every housing program is different. Eligibility requirements, accepted income sources, fees, services, and levels of support can vary.

Ask questions. Understand the program. Know what will be expected before applying or moving in.

When someone says, “I need housing,” the solution isn’t always the same.

One person may need emergency shelter tonight.

Another may need transitional housing while working toward permanent housing.

Someone else may have steady income and simply need an affordable, structured independent living environment.

Others may need supportive services in addition to housing.

Understanding these differences matters because the right housing connection can be just as important as finding housing itself.

At Jones Community Development Foundation, part of our work is helping expand housing opportunities while building relationships with other housing providers and community organizations.

No single organization can meet every housing need — and we shouldn’t have to.

Collaboration allows us to connect people with resources beyond our own programs and strengthen the overall housing network in our community.

Housing is not one-size-fits-all.
