Each year, Virginia APCO and Virginia NENA bring together 911 professionals from across the Commonwealth for **911 Goes to Richmond**, our annual legislative advocacy event at the Virginia General Assembly!

🏛️ This event gives telecommunicators, supervisors, communications center leaders, and industry partners the opportunity to:

✅ Meet directly with Virginia Delegates, Senators, and legislative staff.

✅ Share real-world experiences and challenges facing our 911 communications centers.

✅ Educate lawmakers about the vital role of emergency communications.

✅ Discuss policies, funding, and resources that impact our profession and the communities we serve.

🚨 URGENT CALL TO ACTION: HELP US GET S.725 ACROSS THE FINISH LINE! 🚨

⏰ Time is running out, and our 9-1-1 professionals need YOUR help!

🇺🇸 S.725, the Enhancing First Response Act, has PASSED the U.S. Senate UNANIMOUSLY! This incredible achievement demonstrates overwhelming bipartisan support for this important legislation. But we're not done yet! This zero-cost, bipartisan bill would reclassify 9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicators in the Standard Occupational Classification System from clerical to their proper classification as Protective Service.

The bill is now awaiting action in the U.S. House of Representatives, and we need ONE FINAL PUSH to get it across the finish line!

Twenty-five years ago, our nation experienced a day that changed us forever.

Today, Virginia NENA pauses to remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless lives forever changed in the years that followed.

We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS professionals, military personnel, and everyday citizens who ran toward danger to help others.

And as members of the 9-1-1 community, we especially remember the telecommunicators and dispatchers behind the headsets answering calls filled with fear and uncertainty, sending help into unimaginable circumstances, and remaining the calm voice on the other end of the line.

For those of us in public safety, September 11 is more than a date in history. It is a reminder of service, sacrifice, courage, and the responsibility we share to be there when our communities need us most.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.

We remember the lives lost.
We remember the heroes.
We remember the families.
We remember those who answered the call.

Virginia NENA will never forget. 🇺🇸

Happy Labor Day from Virginia NENA!

Today, as we recognize the hard work of people across our Commonwealth, we want to give a special shoutout to the men and women who never get to put the headset down just because it’s a holiday.

Virginia’s 9-1-1 professionals are still answering.
Still sending help.
Still supporting responders.
Still being the calm voice on someone’s worst day.

While many are enjoying a well-earned day off, our 9-1-1 centers across Virginia remain staffed and ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

To every telecommunicator, dispatcher, call taker, supervisor, trainer, technician, and leader working today:

We see you. We appreciate you. And we thank you for answering the call.
