It’s 9 a.m. on a scorching summer day in Williamsburg. Audrey Wallin has arrived at Grove Christian Outreach Center from Virginia Beach expecting to put her nursing skills to work. What she finds is a lesson in healthcare that extends well beyond a blood pressure cuff.

🏗️🥫 **LET’S BUILD SOMETHING GREAT FOR OUR COMMUNITY!** 🇺🇸

Join us for the 2026 CANstruction Competition, where creativity, teamwork, and community service come together to fight food insecurity across the Virginia Peninsula!

📅 Wednesday, October 21, 2026
⏰ 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
📍 New Horizons Regional Education Center
13400 Woodside Lane, Newport News, VA

This year's theme is "Celebrating America's 250th: Where History Lives and Community Builds!"

Watch as talented teams put their creativity and engineering skills to the test, designing and constructing incredible sculptures made entirely from canned and boxed food!

But this competition is about much more than building impressive structures. ❤️

Following the event, ALL food used in the competition will be donated to THRIVE Peninsula and Grove Christian Outreach Center, helping provide essential food assistance to individuals and families throughout our communities.

We're proud to partner with THRIVE Peninsula, New Horizons Regional Education Center, AGC Virginia Peninsula, and GuernseyTingle to make this exciting community event possible!

🙌 Come see the creativity, celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, and support a cause that makes a lasting difference.

Together, we're building more than sculptures. We're building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community!

We are sad to announce that this Sunday’s in-person Grove Trotter 5K/10K is canceled out of an abundance of caution. The forecast calls for potentially severe weather, including heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning, that could create dangerous conditions during the event. Keeping our runners, volunteers, and community safe comes first.

But the Grove Trotter spirit continues! Registered participants can join us virtually through Sunday, October 18:

👟 Complete your 5K or 10K at a safe time and location.
📱 Track your distance and results using your pedometer or running app.
📸 Post your results and race photos, tag Grove Christian Outreach Center, and use so we can cheer you on!

🎒 Swag bags will be available for all registered participants at Grove Christian Outreach Center. Please pick yours up by Friday, October 16.

As outlined on our race website, registration fees are nonrefundable due to weather cancellations. We are grateful that your support continues to help provide food, resources, and hope to local families.

Thank you for your understanding and for being part of the Grove family. We’re praying for everyone in the storm’s path and looking forward to a glorious race together in October 2027! 💚
