Brothers of Zeta Upsilon,
Happy Easter (and Passover to those who celebrate). My name is Sam Roth, I’m a Sophomore from Westchester County, NY studying Government and History, and I’m the current Tribune of the Zeta Upsilon chapter. I don’t need to point out the fact that there has been a lapse in communication between the undergraduate brothers and the alums of recent, and I deeply apologize for our failure to have done so. That is a true shortcoming on our behalf, and we deeply apologize for that.
I was nominated for and assumed this role on the basis that it is our role and responsibility as current brothers to help facilitate communications between alums as well as between ourselves and alums. As we rebuild our image in the name of Friendship, Justice and Learning, we look on the alums of this chapter and the beacon in the William & Mary community that you all made of this fraternity. These are not empty words when I tell you that we look to return to that status, and understand the hard work and repair with the alums, the school and the community that will come with that. I’ve been trying to get in contact with as many alums as possible, but the lack of infrastructure in recent years has hindered me from doing so. Luckily, David Ashinoff, who has been of great assistance, got in contact with made me an administrator on this page to build that infrastructure. With that in mind, I’d like to give you all a few updates.
- I am pleased to inform you that the Sigma Chi on-campus house is back in our hands beginning in the upcoming Fall 2022 semester, and it is our priority to keep it that way for generations of future brothers.
- 12 Zeta Upsilon brothers made Dean’s List in the most recent semester, Fall 2021.
- Zeta Upsilon just this past week held its first Derby Days philanthropy week in 3 years, and we raised $3,000 from the William & Mary student body for the Huntsman Cancer Institute in that short period.
- The Spring 2022 initiation took place back at the Wren Chapel three weekends ago. The current undergraduate membership of the fraternity is back to 50 members.
- I have been coordinating a meeting between some of the Founding Members (thanks to Paul Dainer) next weekend, as some of the brothers are coming in town for the Olde Guarde Weekend from April 22-24. We look forward to connecting with the brothers who established this chapter and seeking inspiration from the same values that drove them as we strive to rebuild and improve. If any other brothers plan to be in Williamsburg that weekend and have interest in connecting with the brothers, please contact me.
You can reach me on my cell at any time at (914)-336-1541, or by email at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you, and continuing along the path to rebuild this fraternity to the point where it once was and where it rightfully should be. Words cannot explain how much we appreciate your patience.
In Hoc,
Sam Roth ‘24
