Last night, the WFISD Foundation proudly awarded 80 scholarships to graduating WFISD seniors, totaling an incredible $87,800 in support for their future education! πŸŽ“βœ¨

This marks an increase of nearly $10,000 more than last year, and we could not be more excited to continue investing in the dreams and futures of our students. These scholarships help ease the financial burden on families while empowering students to pursue their goals beyond graduation.

We were also thrilled to introduce several new scholarships this year, made possible through the generosity and continued support of our community. From attending our fundraising events to making donations throughout the year, every contribution helps create life-changing opportunities for our students.

Congratulations to all of our scholarship recipients!

In 2019, after the passing of beloved Coyote soccer player Ramon β€œLG” Gonzalez, the Coyote Soccer Booster Club introduced a $500 scholarship in his memory.

Since Old High closed in 2024, it was decided to turn over the scholarship to the WFISD Foundation so LG’s memory would continue on for generations to come. The scholarship recipient must be a male soccer player from either of the WFISD high schools who plans to attend a university or trade school.

Tuesday, May 12th, the WFISD Foundation presented the Ramon β€œLG” Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship to Jackson Bohannon from Memorial High School. Jackson will continue his education at Texas Christian University. Congratulations, Jackson!

Previous recipients include:
2025 - Carter Petersen
2024 - Michael Horn, Carlos Munoz
2023 - Fernando Gonzalez
2022 - No Recipient
2021 - Allan Enriquez, Davis Mays
2020 - Marco Barron, Kordell Dorman
2019 - A.J. Espino

Our first-ever Top Mavs Scholarship recipient spotlight.

Last night, we had the privilege of attending the WFISD Foundation Scholarship Reception and recognizing Jackson Bohannon as one of the inaugural recipients of the Top Mavs Scholarship, presented by Memorial Mavericks Sports Network.

Jackson represents everything this scholarship was designed to honorβ€”excellence in athletics, academics, leadership, and character.

πŸ† President of Memorial High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes
πŸ† 2nd Team Academic All-State – Football
πŸ† 2nd Team Academic All-State – Soccer
πŸ† The only male Academic All-State soccer honoree in WFISD
πŸ† Honorable Mention All-District Defensive Player – Soccer
πŸ† Senior Class Officer
πŸ† WFISD record holder for made kick attempts in a playoff game (10-for-10, 2024)

Jackson has made his mark on Memorial both on the field and in the classroom, but what stands out most is the way he leads and represents Maverick Nation.

Congratulations, Jacksonβ€”we’re proud to invest in leaders like you.
Jackson will be attending Texas Christian University in the fall.

Special thanks to Nikki Davis, WFISD Community Partnerships Coordinator, and Susan Grisel, WFISD Foundation President and Board Trustee, for helping make this special night possible.

πŸ“š Thanks to an IDEA Grant from the WFISD Foundation, Franklin Elementary expanded its library collection to ensure every student can see themselves β€” and others β€” reflected in the stories they read.

Ms. McCartney’s grant provided diverse and inclusive books that represent a wide range of cultures, languages, abilities, family structures, and life experiences for Franklin students in Pre-K through 5th grade. These new titles will help students build literacy skills, strengthen comprehension, and develop empathy through meaningful storytelling.

At Franklin, the library is truly the heart of the school β€” a place where curiosity, imagination, and identity grow. Through classroom read-alouds, interactive library displays, and expanded checkout options, approximately 450 students will now have access to books that serve as both mirrors of their own experiences and windows into the lives of others.

This is the impact IDEA Grants make β€” creating innovative opportunities that inspire learning and help every student feel seen, valued, and connected.
