Every book donated to the Wichita Adult Literacy Council passes through our book room, where volunteers sort and organize donations for the Spring Book Fair. Our current Book Room Manager retires in December, so we're looking for more people to help keep up with incoming books, games, and puzzles while a new manager settles into the role.

Volunteers can help weekly, with a short sorting project, or seasonal Book Fair preparation, depending on what fits their schedule.

📚 MEET THE TEAM: Carla Smith, Book Room Manager

Every successful book fair begins long before the doors open. At the Wichita Adult Literacy Council, that work belongs to Carla Smith.

As our Book Room Manager, Carla oversees the year-round storage of every donated book, puzzle, and board game, ensuring each item is organized and ready for the Spring Book Fair. She also leads our dedicated book room volunteers, guiding the team whose efforts make each sale possible. Because of those sales, we are able to support our FREE tutoring programs for adults in Wichita Falls and the surrounding areas.

After over 7 years of devoted service, Carla will retire this December. Thank you, Carla, for turning pages into possibilities. We are so grateful for all you have given our learners and our community. 💙

Did you know our Book Room volunteers make a big impact all year long?

Long before our Book Fair begins, dedicated volunteers spend countless hours sorting, organizing, and preparing donated books. Their work helps make one of our biggest fundraising events possible while supporting free literacy programs for adults in our community.

We're so grateful for everyone who gives their time to keep our Book Room running smoothly.

For many adults, everyday tasks like reading a prescription label, completing a job application, or helping a child with homework can be difficult. That's why adult literacy matters.
