Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜
And today, Stop the Judgment Project is tabling at Allegheny Commons Park. If you're in the area, stop by, say hello, learn more, and join us in helping spread awareness and stop the stigma.
Today is a reminder of exactly why we do this work.
Behind every statistic is a person. A friend. A family member. Someone who was loved, someone who is still loved, and someone who deserved compassion, support, and another chance.
At Stop the Judgment Project, our mission is to challenge the stigma, judgment, and shame surrounding mental health and substance use disorders, especially among young people. We believe that awareness, education, compassion, and honest conversations can help break the cycle of shame and make it easier for people to ask for help.
Bringing awareness is necessary because awareness can save lives. But stopping the stigma is just as important.
People need to know that they can ask for help, even when they're scared. Even when they feel ashamed. Even when they don't know what to say.
And sometimes, asking for help starts with someone simply noticing.
Pay attention to your friends. Check on them. Ask how they are really doing. Be the support system they need.
You don't have to have all the answers.
You don't have to know exactly what to say.
Just be there.
Today, we remember those we have lost. We stand beside those who are struggling. We support those in recovery. And we continue working toward a world where people feel safe enough to reach out without fear of judgment.
Because stigma can silence people. Compassion can give them a reason to speak.
Today, and every day, let's remember. Let's educate. Let's check on each other. And let's stop the judgment.
Come see us today at Allegheny Commons Park. Let's have the conversations that can save lives.
