These specific projects and programs have been donated to the Allegheny Health Network, UPMC Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and Allegheny General Hospital. The Glimmer of Hope Foundation has received tremendous support because of the transparency of the programs it supports, the satisfaction people receive from seeing their contributions at work, and the knowledge that the funds raised stay in Western, PA.

A Pittsburgh woman credits contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) for detecting her breast cancer early after her annual mammogram missed this due to dense breast tissue. Doctors say contrast-enhanced mammograms can detect two or three times more breast cancers than mammography alone. This allows for earlier detection as well as better outcomes.

Diana is being recognized for her extraordinary leadership, philanthropy and unwavering commitment to advancing women’s health through groundbreaking breast cancer research, patient advocacy and innovation.

Through A Glimmer of Hope Foundation, Diana has raised more than $7 MILLION to support innovative breast cancer research, patient-centered programs and cutting-edge technologies.

And her impact goes even deeper. 💗

Diana’s vision helped provide the original $100,000 seed grant that launched groundbreaking DCIS breast cancer vaccine research at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh — research that has since advanced through Phase II clinical trials.

For more than 25 years, A Glimmer of Hope Foundation has invested more than $5 million into breast cancer initiatives at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, Magee-Womens Research Institute, UPMC, and the University of Pittsburgh. The foundation has funded pioneering programs including the region’s first Premenopausal Breast Cancer Center, advanced breast imaging technology, patient navigation services, integrative oncology programs, and initiatives ensuring young women have access to lifesaving screenings and care.

Taking a few minutes each month to check in with your body can make a world of difference. A breast selfexam isn’t about fear — it’s about awareness, confidence, and knowing what’s normal for you.

Step 1: Look
Stand in front of a mirror with your shoulders straight and arms on your hips.
Look for:
• Changes in size or shape
• Dimpling, puckering, or swelling
• Changes in the ni**le (inversion, discharge, redness)
• Skin changes (rash, thickening, texture shifts)
Raise your arms and look again — awareness from multiple angles matters.

Step 2: Feel (Standing or Sitting)
Use the pads of your fingers to check each breast in circular motions.
Follow a pattern:
• Start at the outer breast and move inward
• Cover the entire breast, armpit area, and collarbone region
• Use light, medium, and firm pressure to feel different tissue layers
This can be done in the shower when skin is warm and relaxed

Step 3: Feel (Lying Down)
When lying down, breast tissue spreads out, making changes easier to feel.
• Place one arm behind your head
• Use your opposite hand to examine the breast
• Move in slow, consistent circles covering the whole area

What’s Normal?
Breasts naturally have lumps, bumps, and textures. What matters is knowing your normal so you can recognize a change.
