Going Home Greyhounds

Going Home Greyhounds GHG: Bringing retired racing greyhounds home since 1995. GHG is a local organization that adopts within a 75 mile radius of the Pittsburgh area in PA only.

This helps to ensure that we are better able to communicate with our adopters and able to follow the care of our adoptees, because it is important to GHG that both the adopter and adoptee are happy and matched properly for life.

Mary Fratangalo at Going Home Greyhounds helped us get our 1st Greyhound from the Wheeling Race Track! After picking out a small female, which is why we went to the racetrack,
we renamed our beautiful girl dog “Ellie”, as her racing name just wasn’t going to work. Ellie was a very special dog. She made new friends every single day! While we would just be walking her, people would smile, tell us that they loved her “booty’s” (she had corns on her front paws & wore Pawz) They would point at her, stop, ask questions, talk about her for 5,10,15 minutes, stop and get out of their car and talk to us. Asking questions about her. Big burly guys in pick up trucks would stop, wind the window down, point at her & say”That’s a beautiful dog”. It never stopped. 🙂
She got along with everybody she met. The nicest dog we have ever had.
She is missed!
Now that she is over the Rainbow Bridge our memories of her being with us will never be forgotten! We are so grateful to Mary Fratangelo, Colleen Smith & the Greyhound community for helping us discover the wonderful world of retired racing Greyhounds. They’re the best.

We have had to say goodbye to another and this absolutely broke our hearts.

Keyara July 30,2023 - June 1, 2026

Keyara, or ‘Princess Keyara’ or ‘KeyKey’ as she is better known, may have been small in stature but she had a huge personality, a very strong will, and no fear (except for ceiling fans). You definitely knew that ‘KeyKey’ was in the house, and the house is already not the same without her. Although she was sadly only with us a few short months, our bond become very strong, and we’ll never forget the impact that she has made on our lives. She loved her cousin Snapper and insisted on standing on the couch to look out the window to see what Snappy was barking at (typically FedEx, UPS or Amazon), since she wasn’t tall enough to look out the window like he did. She would greet him everyday with kisses, followed by trying to place his large snout in her little mouth. She overcame any obstacles very quickly - including any attempt to keep her out of an area - as she could very quickly move or get around, over, or under any barrier and defeat all but the most sophisticated locks. She loved her twice a day ‘peanut butter sandwiches’, which she knew ‘hid’ all of her seizure medications, and would run to the kitchen anytime she heard the alarm I had set on my phone to remind me (once the same alarm sound was on a TV show and she insisted it was time for her sandwich - even though it was not). She bravely fought her Cluster Seizures and let us know when it became too much and it was time to say goodbye for now. Although we’ve only known each other a few months it certainly seems much longer and Keyara is missed more than words can express. Run pain free sweet girl with Elsie, Fish, Sera, Marcella, Champ, WillieNelson, Kal and Tasha. You’ll be greatly missed here on earth, and I know that we’ll meet again at the rainbow bridge someday.

It is with great sadness we let you know another has earned her wings.

Greycie (GLS See Me Fly) 6/27/18-5/22/26

It is with great sadness to write that my sweet girl, Greycie, crossed the rainbow bridge today. From the first day I met her 5.5 years ago, she brought nothing but joy and fullness to my heart and everyone that she met. I will forever miss our daily routine including the morning trail walks, car rides, playing with her toys and her hiding my socks in her bed, her excitement for all meals (especially cheese), play dates, but most of all just having her here and by my side. She was active and healthy until a few weeks ago when a routine vet check-up and blood draw turned into a blood clot, partial paralysis, vasculitis, and infection that she just couldn’t fight and vets couldn’t quite figure out, ended up saying it was a genetic blood disorder. It is way too soon to lose her but she can rest peacefully now.

Fly high and run fast sweet girl! Xoxo 🐶 ❤️

🐾 A greyhound attempting to sit is one of life’s great privileges.
The wobble. The lean. The slow-motion collapse. The expression that says “I meant to do that.”
These dogs are built like elite athletes — flexible spine, zero body fat, fast-twitch muscle from head to tail.
And yet.
S-I-T is apparently the most challenging thing we have ever asked of them. 😂🖤
Greyhound owners will tell you — witnessing a successful greyhound sit is a rare and magical event. Some of us have waited years. Some of us are still waiting.
Drop a ❤️ if your greyhound has never successfully pulled off a normal sit.
