🌟 Spotlight Artist: “General” Keith Patterson

General Patterson first took the stage at 14, performing ZZ Top’s “La Grange” at a high school assembly, and he has been playing ever since. Influenced by Nashville jazz great Roland Gresham and inspired by Carlos Santana, Patterson developed a sound rooted in blues, R&B, Southern rock, and fusion.

Growing up outside Nashville in Ridgetop, Tennessee, Patterson spent his early years immersed in music rather than country traditions. He even grew up next door to Willie Nelson before Nelson became a legend. “We just called him Mr. Nelson back then,” Patterson recalls.

After years of college, archaeology work, and odd jobs, Patterson settled in North Louisiana and became a staple of the regional music scene. Over the years, he performed with Rich Girl, KICK, Patty Rambin, Howard Shaft, Monty Russell, and the Josh Madden Band, building a reputation for versatile guitar work steeped in blues and Southern roots music.

General Patterson has released four recordings: Shackville, Daredevil, Native American, and Picture of a Man.

Come out, welcome the General, and help us keep the blues alive here in Northeast Louisiana.

See y’all Thursday night!

Our friends with Doug Duffey and BADD will be playing at Natchez Under the Hill tonight and tomorrow. Gonna be a helluva show!

Doug was inducted into the Delta Music Museum Hall of Fame last year and he also won ORBS’ local Blues Challenge to advance to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis twice. They always make NELA proud!

A huge congratulations to our own D.K. Harrell for winning the Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Awards for “Album of the Year” AND “Contemporary Blues Album.” This is D.K.’s third BMA win and he was up against some major heavyweights. We should all be so proud of our northeast Louisiana blues ambassador who is keeping the legacy alive for the next generation.

Here’s a message from D.K. to our ORBS community:

“Hello North Louisiana, your son is coming home with two Blues Music Awards for Best Contemporary Album and Album of the year. Everytime I achieve something like this, I always think of Northeast Louisiana. So much has happened from the creation of the Ouachita River Blues Society in 2023 to the creation of the Bluesuem Festival in Ruston in 2024. All I can say is I try to do right by you all with my music because you will forever be a part of my world and my heart. Your son is coming home with his hands full. NELA FOREVAH!!“
