This graduation season, The Rex Lofton Foundation was honored to present scholarships in the amount of $250 each to nine Catahoula Parish graduates. For the first time, we had at least one scholarship awarded at each high school.
The winners were:
Block High School: Kristian O’Steen and Westin Watson
Central High School: Kellie Book
Harrisonburg High School: William Bass
Sicily Island High School: William Little III, Zyree Price, Tashiana Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Christopher Parker
In addition to honoring Rex, the Central High scholarship was in memory of Norma White, and the Sicily Island scholarships were in memory of Dorothy Watson. Norma White was Rex’s grandmother (Nonna) who began her teaching career at Central High School which closed at the end of the school year. Dorothy Watson was a dear friend of Rex’s family and had watched him grow up in the school system, not only as an extended part of his family but as a school board member. Sicily Island High, Rex’s school, also closed at the end of the school year.
The Foundation would like to thank the following people for presenting the scholarships this year. Each is dear to the family.
Vanessa Branch for Block High School
Lisa Edwards for Central High School
Keshia Hackney & Addilynn Lofton for Harrisonburg High School
Curtis Shavers for Sicily Island High School
Congratulations to our winners and to the Class of 2025!
